I have searched high and low for somebody discussing this.

Many people use stepper dampers to filter out the last bit of noise from their motors.

I have certainly tried them in the past but always end up taking them off because they generally skewed something else.

The main reason that I can tell for this skew is because as you tighten your belts, the damper gasket flexes and pivots the motor pin.

And it doesn't take very much tensioning of the belt to pull that pin in.

What are peoples thoughts on this. Sound damping is but so is belt tension.

Are you supposed to tighten until the damper starts to flex then stop? Or pull it tighter causing the pin to put towards the tension?

Doesn't make sense how you can tighten a belt, and not pull the damper at the same time?

I've never used dampers or felt that I needed to do something to quiet my printer.

@RyanP I suspect that dampers are primarily intended for use on screws where you're not pulling the axle sideways as you are with a belt.
