Plan is to use the same duet 3 6HC to control both a 3d printer and an engraver.
    clickbate over.
plan is to have 2 sd cards (any cool ideas here would be amazing) and swap them for each machine. And use atx 24pin connectors for the motors and sensors for each machine, since I only use one at a time and later I can look at adding a third machine for protyping.

    The machines
CNC 3 axis (watched a video and thought wow this looked amazing)
tronxy 5xs (blew the marlin control board up while pissed rewiring)
500x500 3d printer to be made
    Bridgeport mill maybe

Want to make a control box with touch screen, 240V power with switched output for when I get a silicone heater bed / spindle power.

    What I have
    Duet 6

    raspberry pi 4 - 4GB

https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/power-line-filters/1936547/ (to be placed to try and filter to the 24V 30amp? chinese powersupply feeding the good stuff)

    output idea https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/iec-connectors/3118075/

cheap dodgy arduino relays sugestions on solid sate would be nice

https://thepihut.com/products/hdmi-10-1-1280x800-touch-screen-and-case (seems to work nice (might work out how to turn multitouch off)

    Engraver / router

    Tronxy 3d printer

Whare I'm at, plugged all the software bits together excluding the machines.

What I'm after critisism on wtf am I doing this, and general advice. I'm currently at the stage of building the control box and doing some testing, don't want to stard witht he 3d printer but it would be easier.

I looked once at the idea of swapping firmwares and configurations of Duet2 Wifi by swapping SD cards but it didn't work because some of the states/configurations/versions are stored on the Duet itself, e.g. on the Wifi module.

Not sure if it will be an issue in your case if you are going to use exact firmware versions for the two machines.

@Daz_Rich you do not need 2 sd cards, you can use single SD card with 2 config dir's and switch active config dir with M505.

the second part - using DB25, make sure you use high quality DB25 as PRC DB25 can't handle more than 200-300mA, decent quality DB25 can handle 1A on the pin while you can find high end DB25 that can handle 5+A per pin. Signals are not the problem but motors, heaters ... digikey is your friend here, mouser is ok too

Sweet, that command is amazing, should do the job nicely. I was thinking either some kind of SD hot swap card with a switch might exist (SD-card and switch is no longer a searchable term, thanks Nintendo)

connectors are these (ATX 24 pin), not DB 25, I think I'd loose my wits trying to solder one of them. Did see some with a screw top but once again budget and as you say current capacity, plus I've never liked DB connections always found them unsatisfying somehow. The Ideal ones I found but once again budget were EDAC/Varelco 8016/516.

Sweet. I'm going to start with the 3d printer flavour before getting into the CNC, since I think that's the one that will be trickier.

it exist, device plugs into SD card slot and has one sd card slot and one usb host port for a usb flash or even 2 sd card slots, usb client port where you connect a computer that control the switch.. it's rather expensive and used for development, does not really makes sense for your purpose

😄 😄 Those are great, I was replying before first coffee no clue how I seen DB25 😄
