Some issues configuring external stepper drivers with Duet 0.6

Hi, I have added a fabscan shield with four TMC2209 silentstepsticks to my Duet 0.6/Duet shield in the hope of more drivers with less noise in operation (yes I know, get a Duet3 already).
However, when I try to move the motors on the external drivers, they only make a sound as if they were moving but do not actually budge. Motor has holding torque, so it does receive power.
I believed I had set the currents using UART, but the trim pot on the board appears to override it. I have tried setting the currents between 0.5-1.5A without any difference in behaviour except increased holding torque and slightly louder noise.
Same motor and wiring works fine connected to the main board.
I supply the fabscan shield with +5V via the Duet and +24V externally. The Duet is powered with external 12V and external 5V via the external 12V->5V converter board
TMC2209's are hooked up to step/dir/en on the Duet expansion header.

What firmware version are you running on there?

I know nothing about the fabscan shield, however as the Duet supplies 3.3V signals you will need to supply 3.3V power to the TMC2209 drivers, not 5V.

@dc42 that was an easy change, but alas didnt help the issue.
Oh, and I also have watterott stepstick protectors on the silentstepsticks, might they be interfering?

No, assuming they are wired correctly.
Have you definitely connected the TMC2209 Step inputs to the correct pins on the Duet expansion header?

@dc42 I can check again, but since the X and Y steppers go through the motions (you can hear it quietly whine as if accelerating and decelerating just as expected with actual movement), I would think so.
I did get one of the extruder steppers actually moving (only on retract for some reason even with M302 P1) by double checking the wiring between the stepstick and stepper. Shouldn't have assumed all the steppers had the same pinout.
Edit: ooh, wait, maybe I have accidentally swapped En and Dir...
Edit2: Yup, not only had I turned the 3pin Dupont the wrong way around on the shield, I had also gotten the two rows on the confused on the Duet itself when connecting up E1 and E2. All steppers working now.
