Solved D3 Mini + wont upgrade to Release 3.4.0 beta 4
-
Tried that @pcr, still no dice...
-
@cncmodeller can you downgrade to 3.3 and the. Upgrade
-
@pcr that's weird, downgrade to 3.3 then upgrade to 3.4b4 and it still shows b3...
very odd -
@cncmodeller maybe you have got the 3.4b3 uf2 by mistake?
-
Ah OK, just tried again. When I uploaded the 3.3 firmware it didn't take either... that explains it.
Is there any way to force a firmware update without using DWC? Or doesn't it make any difference?Nb: I'm also on Duet Web Control 3.4.0-b4
-
@cncmodeller send M997 from the console.
-
@t3p3tony
Thanks Tony. I'd already tried that as a generic M997 no change. I'll try forcing the relevant filename next. -
@cncmodeller if that does not work then you can connect over USB, double tap the reset button and a drive will be created that you can drag the UF2 into.

@t3p3tony
Still no dice, of note the SD came up as corrupted on my PC, so I repaired it with the windows tool.I've pulled the SD and placed the firmware in the root from here: https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/3.4.0beta4/Duet3Firmware_Mini5plus.uf2
I've then run M997 S0 P"0:/Duet3Firmware_Mini5plus.uf2"
Unfortunately M122 still shows "RepRapFirmware for Duet 3 Mini 5+ version 3.4.0beta3 (2021-08-24 14:08:24) running on Duet 3 Mini5plus WiFi (standalone mode)" as does the DWC "settings", "machine specific" page.
Is it worth reformatting and rebuilding the SD? Not sure where to go from here?
-
@cncmodeller did you place the file in the /Firmware Folder or ROOT Root won't work with M997 but if you follow Tony's suggestion of connect by USB hit the reset twice should put it into Bootloader and pop up a Explorer window with 3 files in it then drop the firmware file into that drive and it should just upgrade
-
@dougal1957 Ah ok, I'll have to pull the board from its enclosure to connect to the usb port. Will look at that after work tonight.
Many thanks
Barry M -
@cncmodeller before trying to remove the board, can you confirm what @Dougal1957 asked about the uf2 file in /firmware as opposed to /
-
@t3p3tony
I've already tried running M997 with the firmware in the firmware folder, this time I used the specified location of the SD root i.e.M997 S0 P"0:/Duet3Firmware_Mini5plus.uf2"
I assume O is the SD root based on the M997 docs?
I'm rooting for a right angle micro SD lead as I type so I don't have to pull the board.
-
@cncmodeller i assume you mean micro usb lead?

Yup... having a bad day!
-
@t3p3tony, the USB + double tap procedure worked! Albeit I had some issues along the way, see below.
Firmware: RepRapFirmware for Duet 3 Mini 5+ 3.4.0beta4 (2021-09-27)
So some useful feedback for future me...
Make sure you have the correct USB drivers installed... device manager should say: "Duet 3 motion control electronics"
https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/blob/dev/Driver/WindowsDriverFiles.zip
Long USB cables don't work for doing the double tap procedure... a short cable + powered USB extender works like a charm!
Thanks for everyone's help, and now back to the main event!
Cheers
