Bed leveling with Dual Head Printing
-
Re: Check out my dual head Modix Big 60!
The one issue is that I cannot use the macro to run full bed leveling with the BL touch.
It's printing fine, no bed adhesion first layer issues, but for re-calibration.Any ideas?
I could try and add a second bl touch. Or create a real IDEX system. Or move the bl touch? -
@djthuma I assume you really mean bed levelling with independent Z motors and not mesh bed levelling. The mesh approach won't work in your case obviously.
I suppose the question for independent Z levelling is how often do you need to do it. The more frequently you have to do it the easier you have to make it. It would be possible to mount another BL touch and then switch between them However you then need to make sure they are at the same height or at least be able to measure the distance between their trigger heights accurately. The same goes for moving the BL touch. If you only have to adjust the level of the bed very infrequently then a manual method may actually be sufficient.

@t3p3tony
Yes, It is mostly infrequent.
Using the Modix Big60 it has 4 independent z axis motors on the corner.
So manual bed leveling is mostly not an option.I'll have to keep brainstorming

@djthuma I'd add a second sensor, then switch between them in the bed.g file.
Not sure if two BLtouch are allowed, since there can only be one deployprobe/retract macro file. But with conditional code, it should work. -
You can define multiple z probes in RRF and then each probe can have its own retract and deploy

however @djthuma AFAIR you are running RRF 2.05.1? to do multiple probe deploy and retract macros you will need to move to RRF3.
The core issues here is if you cant level those BL touches or accurately measure their offset relative to the ideal flat plane then using multipl probes to level a bed will have built in errors
