Re: Magnet filament sensor stopped working

      @T3P3Tony
I think I started a new thread referencing an old one where we have discussed problems with my filament sensor.
I did write a answer a month ago saying that I thought the reason for issues was heat.
It was not, 30 minutes after I posted that thread the issues started again.

From your earlier answers I guessed you think that the sensitivity variation over a print is the issue.
So I tried to tweek settings to make this better and made mechanical changes. It got better but still false movement stops and the "sensor not working" happened intermittent.

Then I found the A parameter, that specifies what movement should sensor care about.
I set this to (1) and then things has been going much better.
Since then the variation in sensitivity has been in 0,1 instead of 1 range.
It can be between 24,7 to 25,8 when starting but variation is not much.
Still get false messages but one or two in a day instead of every hour.

That is until today. See attached file.
First part is a 17 hour print I left in as reference.

I think I had one false stop and I change filament roll once during the weekend.
This morning I got "too little movement message" Restarted, got same message. Retracted filament but there was no issue. Restarted and it laid down filament but same message several times.
Sent "M591 D0 " command several times and got sensitivity values off the chart.
This was around 10:00. I did not have time to fix this so I left it.
Around 16:00 I figured I had to do something to save the print. I tried restarting one or two times and then it worked.
This tells me there is something going on with the sensor. Why it started working again is a mystery.

I will sand it to make AGC value better before next print but AGC value is fine when sensitivity is not so it should not be connected.

I had this happen a couple times, "too little movement" 2-3 times within 30 sec after each other but still printing fine. Normally it start working after a few restarts but this time it did not until waiting 5-6 hours.
Have not looked at/checked sensitivity previous when this particular problem occurred. Most likely it was not a problem, I should have noticed it.

When I mounted the very first sensor and it still worked the sensitivity was within 3 mm and I had no problems.
I have not made any updates or anything that should make this more sensitive.

I have still not received a warranty replacement sensor from Hobby store.

I like to know if there is something I can do to fix this

Hi, just to be clear. I had 2 sensors. One I sent back on warranty to Hobby store (Poland) 5 weeks ago and have not received a replacement yet.
Is it this one I should E-mail about?

Or is it the one I described in the thread? It is the third sensor that have problems. I been chasing issues with these sensors for a long time. Really thought I solved it.

            I'm a little confused.

Can you lay out how many sensors you have and which are giving you issues still. Which one are you describing in this thread?

Ok, I bought one over a year ago. It worked for a while. Sent that back on warranty, got a new one.
I also bought a new one as a spare/ for second extruder.
This is like 6 months ago.

One of these started to have issues and LED stopped working. This one I sent back on warranty too. December last year.

I been running the "spare" since October or something. LED stopped working on that one too but sensor kind of worked.
I only have one sensor right now. Waiting for the replacement sensor I sent in December.

The sensor I have now has kind of worked, description in thread.

In the top of first message in the thread there is a link to previous post about all the issues.
              https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/23258/magnet-filament-sensor-stopped-working

The propose of this thread was to ask T3P3Tony for advise what to do and also kind of prove there is nothing wrong with the wiring, it is the sensor. He is the one who answered questions in previous thread.

I suggest that once I get replacement sensor first thing to do is to check if LED is working.
If not there is something else wrong and that might be the reason behind all the problems.

                UPDATE
I started a new print, forgot to sand sensor at first.
It kind of worked after the usual issues.
I stopped it and sanded the sensor.
Restarted ( 18:19:55 in attached log console (6).txt ) and now it does not work.
It lays down filament fine but says "too little movement" and " sensor not working" and pauses.

I loosen the screws a little and checked that the axle spins.

I will try in an hour or two since it worked yesterday.

I really liked to get the replacement sensor ASAP. I got no response from Hobby store so can you please help me with this?

About sending the current sensor on warranty, I bought it over a year ago and already got a new under warranty so I guess that ship sailed.

Are there such issues with these sensors? Am I doing something wrong?
Some prints I run is 100 hours +. So some kind of sensor is needed.

Before these sensors, if there was a feed stop I had to go and find the Z height with a feeler gage and use Notepad ++ to make a program that started at the right height.
It took a lot of time and sometimes I got one layer too low or too high and the print was f**ked anyway.

The documentation on the laser sensor says it is not a good choice for PETG and 99% of what I print is PETG.

Thanks for the recap. Please send an email to warranty@duet3d.com and CC your reseller for your current sensor. Include a link to this forum thread and the details of your original purchase and details of your previous warranty exchange for it. You'll receive a reply with a form to fill out. I assume it's also from Hobby store? We can enquire about the previous one at the same time.

                    @phaedrux
Thanks. I disabled the sensor last night. Set the parameter so it just monitors. Have a saved log file on this.
But even then it stopped the print "sensor not working".
Used some tricks I have learned during this ordeal and got the print running.
Right now print is running with sensor enabled and stops intermittent.

Being without sensor is not an option at the moment. Need to print. Rather have it stop intermittent than without monitoring.
So can you contact Hobby Store about the warranty sensor? Both are bought there.
Once I got that one I can send the one that is in the printer now.

The shipping on warranty is 20% of what a new sensor cost. I might just buy 3 new sensors and hope that one works.

@phaedrux No, but I think I know why now.
I just got package with my old sensor back.
Writing is in polish so I am not sure but it seems address was wrong.

This is very strange. I printed the address from their website, it also included phone number and E-mail.

I doublechecked now and it is the only address on their site.
                            Package has not been opened.

I need to buy more stuff for the printer anyway. Will try to find a place that has your sensors and other stuff I need.
I think Hobbystore had their chance......................

@phaedrux Like I described in previous post the package with the bad sensor came back.

Doubled checked address and it is correct.

Maybe Hobbystore did not recive it. I dont know.
                                  Desperate to get printer working.

                                  Tired of Hobbystore.
Can you tell me where to buy the sensor? I have a hard time finding it.
