      @darbyad85 the PanelDue does not present a USB port when it has firmware loaded. The USB port is used only for installing firmware.

            @darbyad85 what is it that you have connected to the PC: the Duet, or the PanelDuet? You should connect the Duet's USB port to the PC.

              Thanks for your quick reply - so i am not sure the difference between the Duet and the PanelDuet - currently my laptop is connected to my WIFI and a USB connection to the small 7 inch panel but the 4 pin cable that goes into the big machine is not plugged in - does that need to be plugged in ?
              Thanks again

                The Duet is the electronics board that controls the printer. The PanelDue is the touch screen interface for it.

                Here are the instructions for updating the firmware on the Duet: https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/RepRapFirmware/Updating_firmware

                And here are the instructions for "getting started" I suggest you start here: https://docs.duet3d.com/en/How_to_guides/Getting_connected/Getting_connected_to_your_Duet

                  It will need to be in order to use it, yes, but not to update it.

                    @phaedrux thank you.
                    so where I am is that the DuetDue touchscreen panel firmware has been updated, it says 'connecting' in the top right corner.

                    As for my laptop I still can't find the Duet in device manager and now I've downloaded YAT I can't select it as a serial port.

                    Not sure where to go from here... can the panel really be faulty? It was brand new out of the box.

                      @darbyad85 the "Connecting" message on the PanelDue means that it is trying to connect to a Duet or other 3D printer control board via a serial link, not to the PC. Is the PaneDue connected to a 3D printer control board, and if so, what sort?
