@darbyad85 the PanelDue does not present a USB port when it has firmware loaded. The USB port is used only for installing firmware.

Amazing thanks alot!!! I am helping my husband ( i am more technical than him) but still not that technical! Will keep trying to set it up!

I didnt get far, i installed YAT and its looking for port (COM port) but there is nothing there and there is nothing in device manager. I am connected to the Panel but via USB am i doing something wrong?
-
@darbyad85 what is it that you have connected to the PC: the Duet, or the PanelDuet? You should connect the Duet's USB port to the PC.
-
Thanks for your quick reply - so i am not sure the difference between the Duet and the PanelDuet - currently my laptop is connected to my WIFI and a USB connection to the small 7 inch panel but the 4 pin cable that goes into the big machine is not plugged in - does that need to be plugged in ?
Thanks again -
The Duet is the electronics board that controls the printer. The PanelDue is the touch screen interface for it.
Here are the instructions for updating the firmware on the Duet: https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/RepRapFirmware/Updating_firmware
Here are the instructions for updating the firmware on the PanelDue:

It will need to be in order to use it, yes, but not to update it.

@phaedrux thank you.
so where I am is that the DuetDue touchscreen panel firmware has been updated, it says 'connecting' in the top right corner.As for my laptop I still can't find the Duet in device manager and now I've downloaded YAT I can't select it as a serial port.
Not sure where to go from here... can the panel really be faulty? It was brand new out of the box.
-
@darbyad85 the "Connecting" message on the PanelDue means that it is trying to connect to a Duet or other 3D printer control board via a serial link, not to the PC. Is the PaneDue connected to a 3D printer control board, and if so, what sort?

If you follow along with this, how far do you get?
