I have the 6HC with tool distribution board.

I plugged in a tool and the fuse popped on the distro board after turning on the printer.

So I turned everything off and tried a different port. Pop fuse#2

      Tried again and, pop #3.

So I got a different tool board, plugged it in and then a capacitor on it exploded. The 4th 5v fuse apparently failed closed.

What the heck is going on?

I have V+ and V- going to the main board and the distro board from separate connectors.

That's it, that's all that's connected in terms of power, the bed isn't even hooked up yet.

The distro board looks perfect, not a burn or mark anywhere.

The first tool board seems fine, the second is literally toast.

Can you post a photo showing your wiring?

Can you tell us what capacitor blew up?

Can you tell us which revision of each board you have?

I disconnected the distro board, it was connected exactly like the main board, with it's own leads leading back to the PSU.

And I do have the bed hooked up now to the SSR.

Is the power cable between the distro board and toolboard supposed to be crossed?

The picture of how the board is hooked up would be more useful if it showed the burned board or at least the same kind of board.
My two cents worth - the way the board self destructed looks like a power supply reversal (or, less likely, a defective cap ... very rare)

@gnydick OK, it looks like C6 exploded.

That's a polarized electrolytic capacitor between V_IN and GND.
It would certainly explode like that if you got the polarity backwards.

I don't see a Toolboard V1.3 in the documentation HERE, so I can't 100% be sure of the polarity of the power input connector, but there's a not on all documented versions about being sure you have the polarity correct.

Did you 100% for sure have the polarity correct?

@alankilian it is quite possible the polarity was reversed. It's hard to tell how it should be, since it's an input on the board, not an output.

                    @alankilian it was polarity, thanks.

@gnydick That's too bad. I'm sorry you goofed this up.

I've got the pattern LM555 burned into my right index finger because I hooked one up backwards, it got darn hot and I put my finger on it to see if it was hot and it was HOT!
