Simplify3d v5 duet / reprapfirmware support?
-
@Adamfilip It isn't officially supported, I checked yesterday. Unfortunately the option to configure firmware-specific stuff has been removed as well.

@chrishamm
This not what one expected from them! It is a step back, so I hope they will act on this asap. -
Yeah from what i have seen thus far (I have not tried it myself) there is little point up upgrading simplify 3d at all. Its unlikely to be better than the existing slicers like PrusaSlicer and Cura.

Just asked for my money back for the V5 downgrade! Superslicer is the way!

After being a long term user (since 2015) I moved from S3D v4.1 to Cura a while ago and after looking at the v5 update information it doesn't seem to as good as Cura is now.
TBH I haven't even scratched the surface of cura's capability.
I'm tempted to upgrade to have a play if I can get a refund if it's not up to scratch, I've also asked about Duet3D hardware and RRF compatibility via S3D support.

I was a user of S3D version 3 and then version 4 for several years, after development of Slic3r ground to a halt. However, several months ago I started using PrusaSlicer and I find it very good, once I increased the rather conservative print speeds that it defaults to. So I don't see any need to pay to upgrade to S3D.
S3D v5 claims to be compatible with at least three brands of 3D printers that use Duet electronics. It's not clear whether that includes uploading files over the network. From the community support forum it appears that S3D still doesn't support G10/G11 firmware retraction commands, which was one of the things missing from V4.

@dc42 With post processing scripts you can still use G10/G11. I set mine up like this
{REPLACE "G1 E-0.5000 F4500\n" "G10\n"} {REPLACE "G1 E0.0000 F4500\n" "G11\n"}

S3D support said...
"Yes, these (Duet hardware and RRF) are supported, though we are not currently able to communicate over the network to these types of machines. "

Personally I'm going to stick with Cura for now unless I hear anything positive from the wider community.

Just got my refund > Superslicer is the way
