Earlier today printer stopped mid print and since, I have been unable to connect to the board using bossa. Red diagnostic LED lit at all times. Board not recognized once plugged in via usb under device manager. Tried MacOS as well with same result. Is the board dead? What could have happened?

@biomed27 try unplugging everything from the board other than the USB and seeing if it connects then.

Work your way through this guide and see if you can get the board to show up in bossa by clearing the firmware with the erase jumper/button.

@Phaedrux thanks for the suggestion but I’ve already worked through that guide getting to the end where all methods failed. Hoping for any other ideas before board declared dead

@jay_s_uk any ideas what could have caused it? Looks like board failed mid print with many successful prints prior to that. It’s connected to power surge protector too.

@biomed27 usually its a short in the cabling somewhere that causes boards to die mid-print.
just sticking another board in probably isn't a good idea until the source of the failure of the first board is found.
I'm guessing you've tried a number of different USB cables to try and connect to the Duet? They can sometimes be picky about the micro USB cable used.
Also check nothing gets hot, especially the MCU, WiFi module and SD Card socket

@jay_s_uk yes, I’ve tried many micro usb cables. Nothing appears to be hot on the board. Would disconnecting all components rule out a short in cabling?

@biomed27 sounds like theres not going to be much else you can do. have you had the board long?

@jay_s_uk yes, ordered from Duet in 2018. No issues until yesterday.

@biomed27 might be time to think about a replacement then.
the duet 3 mini+ has the same mounting holes etc

@jay_s_uk what are my options? Keeping mounting holes the same would be ideal. Any performance difference to be expected from upgrading DuetWifi to duet3?

It would rule out a short that was currently preventing the board from powering up properly.

It does not rule out a short that fried the board which is what was mentioned about it being worth confirming if there were any issues in the wiring before putting in a replacement.

@biomed27 well the duet 2 is pretty short of flash for storing the firmware and RAM for running the advanced functionality thats getting added. The Duet 3 doesn't have those issues. It also has CAN-FD support

The main things to watch when upgrading form Duet 2 to Duet 3 Mini are:

                                    • DueX5 expansion is not supported, OTOH there is CAN bus expansion and also a 2-driver add-on module
                                    • The stepper drivers on Duet 3 Mini can't handle as much current as Duet 2. Maximum recommended current setting is 1600mA although you can push it a little higher with good cooling.
                                    • Duet 3 Mini doesn't provide a 5V fan power option, however it provides a 12V fan power option instead.
                                    • There isn't an internal WiFi antenna option, just WiFi external antenna and Ethernet options.

I upgraded my delta printer from Duet 2 to Duet 3 Mini several years ago. I had to print a new back panel for access to the USB connector, SD card and reset button because their positions have moved from Duet 2, and make provision to mount the external WiFi antenna.
