6HC. Pi, tablet or?
-
Hey, Gents. I'm resuming a paused printer build and recently purchased the 6HC. The machine will be Cartesian and use 6 steppers. 2 for xy, 2 for z and 2 for dual extrusion. I'd like for non print moves to be fast as possible and because it will use 20mm lead ball screws on the x and y, allowing the 5160s to run to their maximum speed potential is important.
I like the idea of not being tied to my desk/laptop to control this machine so what are my options?
A tablet with wifi module on the 6hc or a Pi and PC monitor may be another. If I use a Pi what version and ram is appropriate (with some headroom). Also would the Pi take any load, like step rate potential, off the 6hc? -

I wouldn't use anything less than a pi4 these days. 2 to 4gb

I don't think you'll get any hits to performance. You do gain upload speed though, if you have large job files it can make a difference. You also gain display flexibility since you can run a touch screen off the pi and use DWC directly as well as remotely.
