Core XY nozzle contact Z probe
-
I want to do another coreXY machine, but after building a delta with a smart effector, I want the nozzle to be my Z Probe. Or some type of piezo sensor setup.
Is anyone out there doing this successfully, and if so what did you use that is working for You?
If I can't find a ready made solution I guess I will just make my own.Thank You in advance for any knowledge you share.

Yes, I use the nozzle as a Z probe. My hot end mounts have 3 steel dowels that mate with 3 bronze bushes in the X carriage. They keep it rock solid in X and Y but allow some movement in Z (around 0.3mm is sufficient). I don't use a Piezo but instead use a Metrol precision switch with a claimed repeatability of 0.005 mm. The plus side is that it's a just a simple switch so there is no calibrating or interface board required. The downside is that the mechanics may be more challenging, depending on your skill level. There's this approach as well.

If you have fixed bed, you could use the bed as probe.
I use this setup on my CoreXY as I have a fixed bed.
I made a small video of it here.
You'll need a controller board for the piezos from Precision Piezo.
They also sell probes to mount on the nozzle... -
@phaedrux wow, that's a neat idea using motor stall.
