      Hi

Has anyone found a suitable connector for fast printead swaps? there is quite a number of wires going into the printhead, so most of my favorite connectors are not able to connect all of these in a single connector

      thanks!

Would you consider a DSub connector quick release? I've seen several people use a custom PCB with a DSub connector to a wiring harness either using a premade serial cable or individual wires terminated into another DSub.

@phaedrux yeah that is what @nophead designed for the Mendel90. It's robust and reasonably quick.

I picked up the 10-pin Molex Micro-fit 3.0 male and female connectors for this purpose and so far I've been very happy with that choice.

            • They are relatively small, but not too small so as to be fiddly or fragile

            • They have very good 8.5A(!) power rating (for the hotend power lines), according to this source

            • Crimping the wires with a long-nosed plier is easy enough (I don't have a crimper...)

            • They are 'keyed' so orientation can't go wrong, and they have a quick-release latch to boot.

            • Good overall quality (made by Molex)

If you're interested, part numbers are:

            Male Plug: Molex 43025-1000

            Female Receptacle: Molex 43020-1001

Male Crimps (for male plug): Molex 43031-0001

Female Crimps (for female receptacle): Molex 43030-0001

Btw, just did a quick check and if you need more pins they have these connectors with up to 24, which is essentially the main connector on motherboards or very similar to it (molex part number: 0430252400).

We use the 6-pin Microfit 3.0 connector on the Smart Effector to connect the heater and fan wires. They are good, however once you have inserted the pins into the shell, they are impossible to remove without a special (and expensive) tool.

Due to the risk of miswiring, we put the low voltage connections for the nozzle contact probe and the temperature sensor on a separate connector.
