Step by step instructions to setup remote access to D2wifi

I would really like to setup my D2wifi to be accessed remotely. I have read a hundred different posts on this and there are 100 different ways to accomplish this. I have an Apple Airport Extreme router. If anyone has a step by step on how to accomplish this I would be grateful!

do not expose the duet wifi directly to the internet!
any machine that is expose directly will get attacked constantly.get a router that supports ipsec or other forms of vpn, but even then you really need to know what you are doing.

VPN is tricky because it's highly dependent on your router and network setup so it's hard to do a walk through.
Your best bet is to look into your router model and see if it has any vpn capabilities built in. If not, look for some software options that are compatible.
High learning curve to implement it properly.

Many folks will suggest you have to use VPN which is not true.
Nothing wrong with adding that extra layer of security but it can be difficult to setup. There are companies that will provide a VPN connection for a monthly/yearly fee.
Does your router support remote access with secure authentication, meaning the remote user has to provide a user name and password via a HTTPS connection?

@bearcattd Do you want to access the whole web interface remotely or do you just want to be able to monitor the progress of a print?
I would be wary of exposing the full duet3d interface on the internet because once someone has access to it there are no security features in the software that would stop malicious users from damaging the mechanical systems or even burning out the heating elements and/or starting a fire.
If you just want to be notified of job status you could use the D2's M118 command to send notifications to a computer (even a raspberry pi) which could package them as push notifications to a smart-phone or just make them viewable on a web page.

But they also support "exposing", as you put, devices to the WAN side of things but you have to login first using HTTPS. Only then is the device "exposed" and only as long as you are logged in.
Not as secure as a VPN but much easier to setup with nothing special required on the "far" side in the way of compatible VPN software.

Mind if I jump in and suggest simply using a remote desktop application? I use Chrome Remote Desktop, which uses my Google account. Works anywhere in the world and on any OS, including Android.
