      Dear Community,

I want to retrofit my 3d Printer "Kodak Portrait". It has a very high mechanical precision but the Software is lame and also the support. Nearly every second print fails due software crash... On german language some functions crash the printer....

Right now there is a Raspberry Pi that is hooked to a Smoothieboard X5. I dont want to have two systems. In this case it is very slow. Booting up takes 1-2 minutes. Aborting prints 1 minute, and so on.

I am not sure which board suits the most.
      Her are my printer specs:

      • CoreXY with 1 stepper on X / Y / Z
      • Endstop X / Y / Z
      • Probe on Z (actually with the Nozzle)
      • E3D Dual nozzle with dual extruder, means:
        stepper E0 / E1
        heater E0 / E1
        thermo E0 / E1
      • Heated bed with thermoelement
      • ambient thermoelement
      • USB Port (connectect to USB on Raspberry Pi)
      • Touch Monitor (HMDI & USB hooked up to Raspberry Pi)
      • Camera (Connectec with a flatcable to Raspberry Pi)
      • Nozzle swap is mechanical. There is a lever on the extruder which will be tilt by position to furthest X-Position (T1) or to furthest X+Position (T0)

I dont think I can reuse the screen or camera. But I have no problem to replace it.

Can I custon-program the cgode to switch the Nozzle?

I would like to have WiFi aswell as an USB Port (Is already there).
I dont want to handle SD-Cards.
Is there any way to support ambient temp? The Sonsor is already there.

Could you make me a suggestion what I could use to get it done?

My choice till now would be a DUET 2 Wifi with the PanelDue 7". I read that the DUET 2 Maestro will not be continued. Ist there any new launch within the next months?

I thank all of you in advance for your help an support.

      Greetings
      Andreas

        Dear Andreas,

you could wait for the Duet 3 Mini. The steppers of the Duet 2 WiFi are "outdated" but not bad! There is a option of connecting a PI (SBC) to the Mini and the Duet 2 WiFi. With that you are fit for the future
Most of the stuff you are writing can be implemented with RRF!

Another option would be to use a SKR Pro or GTR with the Pi! @gloomyandy made a port of the RRF for that! https://github.com/gloomyandy/RepRapFirmware/wiki

The OP doesn't like the slow boot up time with his existing RPi so surely running in stand alone mode, without an SBC would be a far better option for his usage case.

My recommendation would be the proven and reliable Duet 2 (either Ethernet or Wi-Fi), rather than waiting for the Mini which is unproven and may suffer from the same list of limitations that Duet 3 has compared to Duet 2.

I've just tested my duet 3 + SBC system and it boots up in ~35secs. I am running it with an SSD rather than an SD card (although its only a cheap £10 60gb one from amazon).
I believe the mini 5+ was due to be released around November time but I don't know if that has been pushed back.

With whats currently available if you want wifi, your options are
            duet 2 wifi
duet 3 with SBC or ethernet to wifi adapter
STM32 port with either wifi or SBC

Owns various duet boards and is the main wiki maintainer for the Teamgloomy LPC/STM32 port of RRF. Assume I'm running whatever the latest beta/stable build is
