Try without the quotes around the ip address. The example in the wiki may need to be updated.
-
@Phaedrux Yes it sent a different answer now.
m552 s-1
WiFi module stopped
ok
m552 s2
ok
M589 S"DuetSSID" P"password" I192.168.0.230 C1
M589: Failed to configure access point parameters
ok -
If the access point mode doesn't work after removing the quotes from the ip address you can try reflashing the wifi server firmware by sending
M997 S1
-
@Phaedrux said in My duet wifi does not connect to the wifi.:
M997 S1
This is what I get
M997 S1
Trying to connect at 230400 baud: failed
Trying to connect at 115200 baud: failed
Trying to connect at 74880 baud: failed
Trying to connect at 9600 baud: failed
Error: Installation failed due to comm write error
ok -
Will have to see what @dc42 thinks.
-
If the module has failed, it is replaceable with the right skills and tools.
-
@Phaedrux Well I don't have the skills or the tools for such an operation
-
If you have a maker space or hacker space nearby they might be able to help. Search the forum for "community repair" to see if any of the listed forum users are nearby and able to assist with repair. Alternatively you could try converting to using a Raspberry Pi like the Duet 3 (but the firmware for that is still beta, and it will require some custom wiring), there are a few threads here on using a Pi and DSF with Duet2Wifi as well if you search
-
@bearer Thank you for your feedback. Thus I do not have a makerspace near me. I am in a smaller town where 3D Printing is not so adopted.
I would not like to go for experiments. I like my duet and I wish to keep using that. -
@dc42 What do you think? Is it bricked?
What are my options here? -
That the Duet is unable to enter the bootloader of the wifi module does mean repairs are necessary unfortunately.
If repairs by local enthusiasts or commercial actors isn't an option (a phone repair shop that does actual repairs should be able to do it if you supply the module) then https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/13875/community-repairs might be able to help you, but postage is a thing ofcourse.
Or you could keep using it as is, you can transfer sliced files to your SD card via USB as well as putting the card in your computer; or you can also print directly from USB but its better to transfer the file.
If you don't have a PanelDue you could buy a "DT-06" wifi module, install esplink on it, install a virtual com port on the computer and use the printer wirelessly as if it was actually connected by USB.

DT-06
Thank you but, I do not have a PanelDue. The whole point of the wifi was to print wirelessly without a screen.
I am not sure how I can print without access to the web interface.
Uploading the gcode is not enough.Does Duet3D not support a 2 year warranty as enforced by European laws?
I do not see anyone in Greece in community repairs. And I have not seen DC's comment not sure if the board is really bricked.
In any case, if I were to ship it out of the country I would like to get it fixed by the company that sells it. -

there might be a difference between the warranty provided by the manufacturer (6 months) and your local consumer protection rights provided by your local reseller - but you have to ask your local reseller about that.
if you imported it yourself then you might be out of luck if past the 6 month manufacturer warranty
-

you could print from pronterface or repeteirserver or octoprint to wifi module connected to the paneldue port as an alternative. or you can upload the g-code followed by the command to select the file and start the print
its not like i would suggest it if it wouldn't work, as a workaround - but you clearly prefer to focus on problems, so i will leave you to do that
-
When and where was the Duet purchased? You can see the exact warranty policy here: https://www.duet3d.com/warranty
I've been told that having the M587 command in config.g would be unlikely to have caused damage since you had 2.05 running and it would ignore the command at startup.
the most likely cause of failure of the module would be excessive voltage on the 3.3v rail or ESD.
-
@bearer As it was mentioned above I should not connect with USB while the machine is on. So I am not sure how I can start a print without risking any damage to my gear.
I am not inclined in electronics and take special caution to expensive stuff. It is not like I do not want to, but I doublecheck before I do something dumb.
If that is a problem for you I am sorry.@Phaedrux said in My duet wifi does not connect to the wifi.:
Take precautions to prevent USB ground loops if you are going to leave VIN connected.
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/USB_ground_loops
To be safe you can leave VIN disconnected/PSU unplugged and just have USB connected. Then yes you would use YAT or pronterface to connect via serial and you'd have access to terminal commands.
As described here: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/1.)+Getting+Connected+to+your+Duet/7#s6
It would also be useful to send M587 to see what SSIDs get reported.

I bought my Duet directly from Duet3d.com so that is my seller. Not sure what the difference is between manufacturer warranty and consumer protection rights, as in this case Duet3D represents both for me.
@dc42 Can you please take a look and tell me what you think? Is the board dead?
Am I covered from warranty? Who should I talk to to get this fixed/replaced? -
@Phaedrux Glad to hear that. My duet was purchased from Duet3d.com at 09/12/2018.
It has been working no problem so far. As a matter of fact it lost connection while printing yesterday. I did not worry at the time as it has happened to several users and after a restart it used to connect again.
Nothing changed in the configuration. It just stopped connecting to the wifi yesterday.

UK only partially adopted the EU rules, so you're left with the UK Consumer Rights Act which says faults after 6 months can be covered if you can prove the fault was there when you received it. Its usually a good idea to factor in differences in consumer protection when considering shopping abroad.

Based on the tests we've done so far it would appear the wifi module is dead, exact cause of failure unknown, but they do fail occasionally. You are outside of the 6 month warranty, however, we'd like to make sure you can get up and running sooner than later.
Your options are to find a local repair shop to replace the wifi module, or if you'd prefer, you can contact roland@duet3d.com to inquire about an exchange for a refurbished Duet at reduced cost, subject to current availability. Include a link to this thread.
In the meantime, Bearer has given some options for workarounds to keep you printing while you decide how you want to proceed. Copying a gcode file to the duet SD card and then issuing the start print command over USB is probably the best option. It is possible to have USB and VIN connected at the same time, you just need to take precautions to prevent a ground loop. The easiest way to do this is to use a laptop on battery, or to have your PC connected to the same power outlet as your printer. Once the print is started you could disconnect the USB cable.
-
@Phaedrux @bearer Thank you both.
I do not think I can find a decent electronics shop in my city that I can trust to fix this and not destroy it , so I will contact Roland and see my options. Probably shipping it to Duet3D would be the same cost as shipping it to any other country they guys that are keen to help in community repairs.
Thanks again.
