      Hi *,

Happy new year to all of you!

I use the mini5+ on my current build (ratrig v-cast IDEX), so it is clear that I miss 2 drivers. My idea is to connect a two toolbards (1LC), one board per tool. I think that this is the idea behind the toolboard. 🙂

I have learned in the past that the endstop switch must be connected to the same board as the motors driving this axle. Is that still the case (FW 3.2)? I do not know how I can connect a bl-touch if it needs to be on the same board than? I think that it is clear that the driver on the toolboard will drive the extruder not the z steppers.

I had in my mind that the limitation will be removed but I'm not sure any more about the version. I tried to find something at https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/blob/v3-dev/WHATS_NEW_RRF3.md but without success.

      Cheers, Chriss

The limitation is that an endstop switch on the main board cannot stop a motor on an expansion board. You can connect your BLTouch to a tool board, and it will be able to stop Z motors connected to the main board. The limitations are described here https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_firmware_configuration_limitations.

Are you aware that there will shortly be a 2-driver expansion daughter board for the Mini 5+? We expect to have them later this month.

@dc42 Thanks David, so my memories fooled me. 😉

Yes, I saw that 2driver thing expansion, I'm not sure that this will be a better approach for me.
I like the idea of "one board per tool". That simplifies the wiring a lot. On the other hand is the expansion board on the y rail I nice idea too.
Anyway, the tool boards are hard to source her in Germany at the moment. So I will have so more time to decide anyway.

            Cheers, Chriss

Yes, tool boards are excellent for direct-drive tools.

I just checked our three distributors in Germany and found https://www.dold-mechatronik.de/Duet-3-Toolboard-1LC_1.

Thanks again. I was on there website yesterday and there webserver was not working. Good to see that they are back online. 🙂 I Ordered a pair of them plus two filament sensors, whatever.... sometimes it is better to stay at the original plan. 😉
