      I'm in middle of a print and did a M122 report just out curiosity.

        @dc42 it seems the timeouts are a common thing. Everyone i spoke with had those in the drivers report, me included (see files i posted earlier)

          All those of you having this problem and running firmware 3.3beta2, please upgrade to the firmware build at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0mwfe22wepk5efh/AAB6Lp0rwBPjVK2R4SxbKhLya?dl=0. If the problem continues when running this firmware, please post M122 logs as before.

          If you are not yet running 3.3beta2 but you are happy to run it, please upgrade to 3.3beta2 first (from the unstable package feed if running with SBC, or from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/3.3beta2 if running standalone), then upgrade the main board firmware to the version in the above link.

                          The M122 report shows that there were no driver comms timeout errors this time.

                          Your M569 report shows that you are running drivers 0 and 1 in stealthChop mode with tpwmthrs set to zero, so that the drivers will never change over to spreadCycle. This means that you will get issues above some speed threshold. So the travel bang and mini bangs may just be caused by running too fast in stealthChop mode.

                              Here are some options:

                              1. Run in stealthChop all the time, and set the maximum speed low enough that stealthChop doesn't cause any problems. My guess is that this is what the Prusa printers do when you print in silent mode. You will need to execute a good tuning procedure during homing to ensure good steathChop calibration so that it works well enough at speed. You risk getting a layer shift if the print head hits a blob or overhang, because in stealthChop mode there is little torque reserve at the higher speeds.

                              2. My preference is to set a very low speed for switching over, to get the benefit of low standstill noise without losing torque while printing. As long as microstep interpolation is enabled, the motors should be fairly quiet anyway, except at mid-band resonance speeds. The firmware default is tpwmthrs (aka M569 V parameter) = 4000, which corresponds to a speed of 4.7mm/sec on a Cartesian printer with 80 steps/mm.

                              3. If in doubt, run in spreadCycle mode (D2 parameter in the M569 command) until any motion problems have been eliminated, and only then try using stealthChop.

                                  Yes, I am aware that the original problem occurred when the drivers were reported as being in spreadCycle mode by M569. I would like to know whether in that same scenario, the problem still occurs using the updated firmware that I made available this evening.
