Shopping list for 24VDC upgrade, is it enough?
-
Good morning, I want to upgrade my Duet 2 WiFi power supply to change from 12VDC to 24VDC. Firstly I have to say that the heated bed already has its own power supply so the new one has to support "only" the board, the steppers, the drivers, 2 50W heating cartridges, the 5015 cooling fan (for the printed part), the E3D cooling kit (using a step down) and a LEDs stripe (using a step down as well).
I've calculated the following current absorption:
- Heating Cartridges: 4,16A
- 5 Steppers: 5A for all
- Cooling kit: 2A (overkilled)
- Cooling fan: irrilevant
- LEDs stripe: maybe less than 2A
It remains to calculate the board's and drivers' absorption....I've ordered a 20A 24VDC power supply, I think it is more than enough, isn't it? (of course I've ordered the heating cartridges and the cooling fan as well)
Reagarding the board, all I have to do is change the power supply and that's it, correct? There aren't jumpers or other settings to do in RRF, right?
I have some doubt about the stepper current settings in config.g....changing from 12VDC to 24VDC has the current provided by the drivers to remain the same or has its amount to be changed?
Thanks!

Re-run heater tuning.

uh yes, of course, I forgot to mention... thanks!

@the_dragonlord, 20A sounds like more than enough. See https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Choosing_the_power_supply if you haven't already.

I check it out immediately, thanks!

Just to make sure since you already seem to have the 50W cartridges and it isn't fully clear to me whether you mean those or new ones when you say you ordered them: you will need to switch from 12V cartridges to 24v cartridges. Running 12V cartridges at 24V quadruples their use, and you don't want 2x200W on your hotend.

Thanks for the warning! of course I've ordered a couple of new 50W 24VDC cartridges

@the_dragonlord As ever, I'm confused by your post. In your first post you put .....
"Heating Cartridges: 4,16A"
Assuming you mean 16A for all 4, then that would be 4A per cartridge, which at 24V would be 96Watts each (which is alarmingly high).
But then later you say .......
"I've ordered a couple of new 50W 24VDC cartridges"
While a 20A PSU will be more than sufficient, which is it? Is it a) 4 x 96Watt cartridges drawing 16A or b) 2 x 50 Watt cartridges drawing around 2 Amps each = 4 Amps in total?

I suspect he means 4.16 A total for 2 x 50 W heaters

That's just confusion of the decimal separator between German and English "4,16" means "4.16" in this case.

Yeah that's what I figured as well!

No, I meant 4.16A for both...we use , intead . as decimal separator...

5 Steppers: 5A for all
How did you get to this number? Summing the individual currents or summing the individual power (I think it's explain in one of the dozuki pages)?
Also, regardless of power needed, I recommend the MeanWell UHP series. Slightly more expensive but smaller and stay cooler.
