Solved Upgrade PanelDue v1.1
-
A few years ago out of frustration I put this mini kossel printer away. Recently I started rebuilding parts of it... Today I went to look at upgrading firmware on the different components... To my surprise there are Paneldue "i" types now, version 2, version 3 of panel due.
My DuetWifi controller board that has about 36 hours used is probably outdated too.
Was there an upgrade board released at some time to go from the Paneldue v1.1 to whatever the latest version is now?
What is different between the 7 and 7i ?

The duet wifi controller will be fine. The major difference between v1 and v2/3 of paneldue is that the v1 has an older MCU with less memory, and can't run the latest versions of the oaneldue firmware which you'll need for RepRapFirmware 3. The difference between PanelDue7 and 7i is whether the controller is on a separate board or integrated.

I think the most recent version of PAnelDue firmware for the older version hardware is 1.24

@phaedrux V1.25 has just been released. (I am sure you knew this by the way just posting this here to complete the thread).

I am still a bit confused here. Is the screen used on the paneldue 1.1 still usable with newer paneldue controller?
I want to move to RRF 3
-
Yes even older paneldue will work with RRF 3.
You'll need Paneldue firmware 1.25 for it to communicate.

Thank you. Looks like I can get a newer controller from Filastruder. Should I get it?
-
That's entirely up to you. I don't think you are missing out on anything much at this point.

@eddiie to see what new features you would get by upgrading the controller and installing latest firmware, go to https://github.com/Duet3D/PanelDueFirmware/releases and add together new features from the release notes for all releases going back to 3.2.0.
