Locking old posts - Poll
-
So what are peoples general thoughts on having people resurrect old topics when they have a similar issue, vs locking topics after (say) 3 months of no more comments, requiring a new topic to be opened?
Also this is a test of the new poll plugin.
The results of this poll are not binding!

Ok posts older than 45 days should now be locked.
We can review this moving forward, maybe 45 days is not optimal.

Is it just a coincidence that, all of a sudden, my browser is not showing any dates/times?
-
@burtoogle could be related it appears to working in Chrome on windows:
-
Is there any advantage of always opening new threads? Ok, maybe sometimes if it is related to an update of the firmware... But why in general? For me, it is sometimes quiet helpful to search the forum and maybe just update / add a question... (btw- the forum search doesn't work at the moment? (even in chrome / firefox )

The archive plugin has caused a few issues which I am working to resolve.
-
And we should be back, looks like archiving is on hold until i get the plugin to work without messing up the whole forum
-
@kuhnikuehnast This was the reason why I voted to not lock.
A compromise could be to introduce sticky notes and leave them changeable. There are a few issues that keep coming back. -
Something I have seen other forums use to deal with old threads being resurrected is to indicate somewhere that it is an old thread right at the top, then before the new post there is some sort of indicator that says something like ....6 months later....

Ahhh, I see democracy at work. We've had the referendum now there is talk of compromises and alternatives. So in true democratic fashion, we'll likely all end with something that nobody voted for. Sounds vaguely familiar given the current political climate here in the UK........

I will look into the alternative of notifing people that they are raising a zombie post.
Another compromise is to start a new post and then link to the old one...
