Hotend won't stop heating!
-
I'm new to duet, in fact, my duet2 WiFi board just came today. I have set everything up following the guide here and everything seems to be working except for the fact that the hot end automatically starts heating and won't stop.
I have checked the wiring several times.Am I missing something? Is there a setting I haven't configured right?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help

We could use some more information. See here: https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/5909/guide-for-posting-requests-for-help

@phaedrux
Sorry about this
OK, I have a duet2 WiFi board. The other parts are from a creality ender 3, so cartesian.
Without power to the hotend (either through just USB or with it disconnected) the thermistor is reporting correctly. I used the ferrules supplied, but in case I did not crimp them correctly I have removed them and exposed fresh wire and have the same problem.
It just seems to start heating and not stop, once it gets over the set maximum heat it then gives a fault to turn off the machine and check connections, so I turn it off and try again once it has cooled down but to no avail. I lowered the max heat (100c) and it does the same, and it keeps going. I never let it go past 240c before turning it off.If there's anything else I need to tell you please let me know

@swampy Do you have another spare thermistor and heater cartridge to test with?
-
@phaedrux
Unfortunately not, is that the most likely malfunction?
Should I get another to test? -
Can you post your config.g as well just in case something else is off.
@dc42 may have some other ideas what to test on the board itself.

I will post that tomorrow, thanks for the support so far

Are you saying that as soon as you apply power, the hot end starts heating without any commands being sent to the Duet? If so:
- Remove the SD card, then power up and see if it still happens. [To eliminate the possibility that something in config.g is commanding the heater on.]
If it still happens:
- Look for the E0 heat LED near the corner of the Duet. Confirm that it is lit when you apply power (it should be lit whenever the heater is on). Try disconnecting the heater, then power up again. If the LED is still lit then the Duet is faulty. If it is on longer lit, there is a short between your heater and ground.

With the sd card removed and the heater unplugged both E1 and E0 lights are on (next to vin, 5v and 3.3v lights at the corner of the board)

If both are on, that suggests that the mosfet driver chip has failed. That normally happens only if the +5V rail has received excessive voltage. If you are sure that there hasn't been a short between a +5V and a +24V wire in your wiring, then I suggest you ask for your Duet to be replaced under warranty.
