    • Expansion driver with Duet Wifi

      Hello,

If I connect up a 5160 step stick to the Duet Wifi over the expansion header will the firmware be able to configure it? The Duex 5 boards add 2660 drivers and configure using the SPI interface. I want to use some 5160HV drivers.

So the question is will the firmware be hard wired for 2660 or will it recognize and use the 5160?

      Thanks,

      Mark Napier

@leonmf Can you add a friction break? A solenoid that retracts a brake when the table is free to move but automatically re-engages when power is lost (or the driver is not enabled).

    • RE: LCD support for the RADDS?

I would be happy to do some porting and testing on my board. Usual thing is that I need hand-holding to get the development environment up and going. I use my Macbook for everything but worst-come-to-worst I could do it in a Windows 7 VM.

I certainly have benefitted from the RRF devel on the RADDS. Thank you much for that!

Is it fairly easy to add the LCD support from the Maestro to the RADDS build?

Also, on my printer I have problems with the open box frame. Even with gussets and angle brackets everywhere I can bolt them on there is still a vibration that is noticeable. Only solution I see is to bolt on exterior panels to stiffen the frame. For this one you might consider some method of cross bracing.

      Have Fun!

      Hello,

Looking at the design the main problem you will have is keeping the frame ridged over these distances.

My take on how to improve it.. Use corexy on the moving frame to minimize the moving mass. Also, use 4 lift screws to raise it. The Duet can use a BL-Touch to level the frame with the stationary bed using the 4 steppers to minimize twist. If you use this approach then you also only need 2 bearings to keep the moving frame square to the stationary frame rather than the 4 shown. Less likely to bind because it is not over constrained. The two in opposite corners would be ideal.

Depending on your budget, linear rails will be more accurate and the interior space can be enclosed and heated.

      FWIW.

Looks like a cool project. Make dinosaur bones!

    • RE: What makes the zip-zip sound?

My build is about that tall too using 20X40 for the uprights. If I knock the frame it vibrates. No real surprise because the uprights are unsupported even with all the gussets. I intend to screw metal panels to the outside on 3 sides. On the front I want a sheet of 1/8" polycarb that has removable hinges on one edge so the door can be easily taken off. It will also have some thumb screws at the corners to tighten to frame. There is already a floor and partial top so mechanically this should make a closed box. Time will tell but this should be extremely ridged.

      FWIW,

      Mark Napier

@deckingman I try to build rigid, but I don't kid myself. When the frame is 1.5 m tall, and you throw 1.5 kg around with 5k m/sec^2 acceleration, its going to flex. I'll probably turn the acceleration back down to 1k or so for daily use and know that if I absolutely have to, I can crank it up.

    • RE: PanelDue RADDS compatibility

Does the SD card slot then take the place on the one on the RADDS or in addition to? Is there a performance hit for using it?

      Thanks,

      Mark Napier

@dc42 said in PanelDue RADDS compatibility:

PanelDue should work as-is with a Due/RADDS that is running RepRapFirmware. However, the cable you need is different because of the different pinout on RADDS. If you don't want to use the SD card socket on the PanelDue TFT panel, then there are only 4 wires so it should be straightforward. If you do want to use the SD card socket, then there are an additional 5 wires, so it's going to be a little more complicated. I believe there are existing users running PanelDue with RRF on RADDS, but I don't know whether any of them are using the SD card socket on PanelDue.

    • RE: Opinion on Core XY belt layout

I'm using the single rail on my build ala' Jetguy's design. It is a flat 2"x1/8" aluminum bar with a 420mm MGN12 rail on it. Makes a very stiff gantry esp. in the X/Y plane. I'm using the Rep2 single extruder kit from Bondtech. Is a very simple and compact arrangement using a MicroSwiss heat brake.
