Hi, I am having trouble working out what a replacement M950 command would look like for this firmware v.2 M106 command.

M106 P4 T50 F500 H3
; T0 Hot End Fan (Turn on for T>50 degC).

I prefer not to have my hot end cooling fan wired into the "always on" pins for many reasons. I cannot figure out a new firmware 3 conditional statement equivalent. Any help firmware 3 users can give me would be great.

Hi Guys

Just a heads up. We are utilising a duet 2 along with other cards/VI's for our open-architecture laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) rig at Heriot Watt.

I will share more details once I can however, the Duet 2 is central to the basic mechanical movements of our rig. We have integrated this with LABVIEW in order to manage the 5 or 6 different systems that culminate in our builds.

Since I took over the day to day management of the machine, I begin by integrating 3D printed parts using my duet powered FDM machine. We have now went further to integrate duet electronics into the core systems of the machine.

Here is our rig an an example build.

Once I can, I will share more details on what the DUET 2 actually does within our rig, however the the quality we are getting on bids (SS316) are superior to what we had before we integrated the DUET 2 into the rig. Before we were using easy-steppers and they were rough for powder spreading etc...

For the record, I dont believe the documentation was mis-leading in any way. It says controllable, I assumed that just meant that you could select the voltage. Obviously they have to be controllable through the code for the outputs to be useful for the additional extruder/heater combos and their respective part or hot-end cooling fans. I missed the blindingly obvious. It wouldnt be the first time. I’m sure the majority of people, perhaps everyone apart from me understood what controllable meant. It may be worth adding the word “PWM” in front of the word “controllable” to align the terminology between the descriptions of the duet wifi and duex 2 expansion board.

I recieved the new board today and found it to be exactly the same…....then it hit me.........the issue is with me.....I assummed wrongly that these were always on fans......I feel really silly now. Why would they be always on fans?? I am sorry for wasting everyones time. Thanks for all your help as always! I appreciate it alot.

I think that will work well enough, the larger diameter fans are generally quieter or at the very least the lower frequency of that sound will be far more tolerable. The HLG series does go up to 600W, however you are talking about £240+ for a 600W model. You can buy a decent printer for that sort of money nowadays As long as its Mean-Well, you can be confident that it will last and be manufactured to a high quality! I've lost count of the number of cheap Chinese supplies that have failed on me, some have even went up in smoke without actually cutting off!

These supplies are great in terms of quality and reliabilty, but the fan noise is extreme with these models.

I previously had a RSP-500-24 and the fan noise was the reason I switched to the Mean Well HLG320H which has a larger footprint, but is convection cooled with no fans whatsoever.

In terms of replacing the fans, it can be done however, airflow is important and any changes are that you are going to make, if successful, could prove problematic. I don't recommend it. The remote on/off functions on these units are for the entire supply, not just the fans. The RSP (SP) line up are not ideal for this reason. The HLG series are a tad more expensive but worth it I think if you want something more reliable than a Chinese ungraded supply.

Sorry, I forgot about your second question. Im testing the fan outputs using a number of working 12v and 24v fans. All of the fan outputs appear to be not working.
