    • RE: Messages not automatically closing [Solved]

I actually liked the layer change message. It was done with a Simplify3d post processing replace command. Unfortunately, their syntax is pretty limited so there's no way I can see to do it with M291 because of the double-quote characters on the P argument.

      Thanks for the prompt responses.

Every regular message (like Layer 2, z=0.4) stays on screen indefinitely . I come back and they pile up from the bottom to the top of my browser window and I have to each one separately. How do I make them auto close?

'Do not close error messages automatically' is NOT on.

    • RE: Excluding regions where the tool should not go

@jacotheron Very clever! Thanks for the tip.

I think a more directly supported gcode solution would be a good thing, but this gives me something to work with.

@jacotheron To be clear, you're suggesting adding the M98 to the starting gcode field in Simplify3D?

@aidar I agree this could work by adding startup gcode in Simplify3d to restore the limits at the beginning of the print. Of course that just means there's yet another bit of jiggery pokery in S3D I have to maintain.

    • Excluding regions where the tool should not go

I have a printer with a rectangular print region. I park the carriage outside the printable area. I use M208 to extend the travel range in Y so that the parking area is reachable. The problem is that when in the parking area, a bad X command could push the tool into an area it should not go causing a carriage crash.

Long story short, it would be nice (and safer) if there was a way to describe the legal travel range as something other than a simple rectangle. I skimmed through the current gcode documentation and don't see a way to do this.

Is it currently possible to do a non-rectangular region or is this a wish-list item?

    • RE: Powerloss/reset when current exceeds 6A

This is a low probability but it's important to remember the cause of problems aren't always the obvious ones. My BigBox shut down multiple times for no obvious reason and finally turned of and stayed off.

I assumed it was the power supply. I ruled out a blown fuse and replaced the power supply, but it was still dead.

As you can see the power switch failed, melted the plastic casing, and burned the tinning off the copper wire that goes to the switch terminal blade.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't make sense of it. Something like the iconography suggested by fma would be much appreciated.
