    • RE: Unable to home z axis

      @Phaedrux
Thanks again for your help, I'd be pulling my hair out by now (if I had more than a mm in length 🙂 ) Could I politely ask, have you worked with a Bigbox printer at all? It has a few quirks, like the bed moving for Z changes rather than the bed.

I've updated firmware to 2.05.1 and have made a new set of files for /sys but I still had to change some of it, mainly the hot end temp sensor, it was config'd as a thermistor and I'm using a PT100 with the daughterboard, set by the configuring tool.

      M305 P1 T100000 B4138 R4700 ; set thermistor + ADC parameters for heater 1
      M143 H1 S300 ; set temperature limit for heater 1 to 300C

      now changed to

      M305 P1 X200
      M143 H1 S300 ; set temperature limit for heater 1 to 300C

The temp max of 300 degrees doesn't show in the setting in DWC and I had to add it manually using the Default Heater temps and Add New Temp tools. Is that how it should be or should the max temp automatically show in DWC after being changed in config.g? Am I simply missing a setting on the config tool? I hope it's me messing up, the config tool is a great piece of software even though, to me, it seems too complicated 🙂

OK, back to my homing problem. I had to modify homeall.g after it was configured by the tool , I changed it to have Z move negative when shown as positive and vice versa because it's the bed that moves rather than the hot end, perhaps I missed the setting for that in the config tool. I also changed the movement for X and Y for the final position before the G30 probing is executed. Again, is there somewhere I can set this in the config tool?

OK, I've run with the newly configured files, there is a difference but an unwanted one. The problem is still there, that is it reaches the G30 command but doesn't appear to run it, basically it's the same as it was. There is one other difference, even though I have commanded it to move to X150, Y100, the board centre, just before G30 it doesn't move there, it goes to X100, Y20 and stops showing a pinkish error of G28 G0/G1 insufficient axes not homed.

Could you tell me how to display the files on the forum page and I can upload all the relevant files. I tried before by pasting in the files but the page returned a spam error unfortunately.

    • Big box with Duet 2 Ethernet and 7" PanelDue for sale

This machine is in good working order. If anyone is interested in buying it please make me a reasonable offer via private messaging and we can discuss it. If there are any questions then please ask them here. I'll post some photos shortly, at the moment I'm not with it so I can't take any pics. Rather stupid l I know, I should have done those first before I posted this ! Anyway, such is life 🙂

Just one more point, I haven;t actually fitted the PanelDue so basically it's brand, brand new ! I've been using the printer via normal browser interface.

I have a very genuine reason for selling which I'll explain to any interested parties.

    • Unable to home z axis

I have a Bigbox, single extruder/hotend basically it's a stock model, no added parts except I installed Duet Ethernet.

When I attempt to homeall the x and y axes home correctly, I have both set to then move to the hotbed centre to home z. When it reaches that point I am assuming it has reached G30 but everything stops without the bed rising to complete the z home process. I can hear a very quiet high pitch whistle? sound which lasts about 10-15 seconds and then stops, perhaps the z motors trying to turn?

I use the IR probe that came with the Bigbox which looks the same as Davids design, it's connected to the probe connector on the main Duet board and I have it configured as mode 1 in all appropriate place in config files.

I have attached the related files, config.g and homeall.g

      config.g
      homeall.g

    • RE: Big box with Duet 2 Ethernet and 7" PanelDue for sale

@fcwilt Haha ... yep, moving there for the fun of moving about the country. It is also cheaper living, epecially for constant cruisers coz there are no mooring fees which can save a couple of grand a year, theres no council tax either for constant movers and being alone living on a narrowboat is just heaven, me and my Nintendo Switch and my X-Box. It's an easy and blissful life, summer is gorgeous, winter is ok the boats can run on either diesel central heating or gas central heating, the former being cheaper. I can't wait, roll on springtime 🙂 The other thing is the bow room is usually fitted with a double bed, king sized no unfortunately, it's something I'll have to get used to, I have a kingsized myself at the mo.

@fcwilt Hi Frederick, Yes, Constant cruisers can moor anywhere for free for up to two weeks then they have to move on. Regarding work, I don't have a problem with that, I'm 68, I retired 18 years ago, it's been the best 18 years of my life. I did miss my workmates at first but being a landlubber I could see a lot of them either visiting homes or in the pub. In the future it'll be kless so but I'm sure I'm going to make new friends. There is a chap that does a Vlog on youtube called Tales from The Swans Neck (which is the name for the tiller) and he has made dozens of new friends, people he sees regularly as he travels around. It's going to be a wonderful life for my final years, I have no intention of ever buying a house again 🙂

Sorry, I forgot to add firmware version in my post, it's 2.03. I'm waiting until I have everything working again before I update, I can do the tests later today.

Thanks for the info on the invalid section, I picked all the configuration files from a posting on the forum having unfortunately permanently damaged my original sd card (the cat ate it along with my homework, it ate the backup on my pc too!)

@Phaedrux Not sure about that, I don't have any toddlers but there was an amusing occasion in 1978 when myself, my wife and my 3 year old daughter were hiring a boat for a couple of weeks. Every time Lyndsey ( my daughter) saw some ducks or in fact any water bird she ran below grabbed a loaf of bread and started throwing it to them saying 'Ere yar duckses eat yer butties" and just in case your a southerner or rather not a north-westener it means "Here you are ducks, eat your sandwiches". We had to laugh so much each time she did it, in fact we bought an extra four loaves of bread for her each time we were shopping... it was so funny.

Thanks, I'll get to that today. I wasn't able to do anything yesterday, other stuff happening etc ....

I'll do my best with the config tool but the reason I downloaded a working config for the Bigbox off the forum is simply because there are a lot of the settings I simply don't understand, what figures I should enter etc. I used to be able to run the Repetier tool when they first brought it out without a problem, it was clear what each setting did and I successfully used it on my original self built Reprap machine about 10 years ago (the one based on Adrian Bowyers design). Configs for the RAMP board was so easy 😉 but configs are necessarily much more complicated for the Duet. I daresay I'll eventually learn what I need to do but at the moment it's very much an uphill struggle on a very large hill. Perseverance will get me there I'm sure.

Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated.

@Phaedrux Ahh so sorry, I've also been given that one too although it is very good. One I follow an awful lot because he's about my age, he suffers the same illness conditions as I do which have helped him immensely, that is depression and anxiety. Both are high on my medication list from my local doc. The Vlog that Andrew produces is Tales from the Swans Neck, which I think I may have mentioned already but it's thew name for the tiller.

I do appreciate all the help though, you guys are a godsend, not just n 3d printing but on lots of other stuff too !!

@Phaedrux Sorry for the late reply, you wouldn't believe how busy I've been.

Yep, I posted on E3D Bigbox forum without success but my last look for responses was 5 or 6 days ago, there may be some answers now !

I was thinking about pulling out the Duet equipment, putting RAMPS into Bigbocks in its place and selling each as separate entities. Duet and PanelDue as one and the printer as the other. I wonder which will sell first and for the most ... no, no need to wonder, the Duet will win hands down 🙂

So that's my next project, at the moment I'm ultra busy listing, packing and visiting the courier drop off shop. Once I've got rid of most of my gear I'll spend some time one the Bigbox modifications.

@Veti You seem to have completely misunderstood my message. If you'd asked instead of just stating that Bigbox moved away from acrylic for a reason. Yes, they did stop using acrylic, it was garbage but at the sane time they also used plywood which was extremely successful. Mine is made of ply and has never given any trouble except from the automatic software creator adding files that it shouldn't have. The files added were meant for the mini kossel and stopped the Bigbox from homing. After an enormous amount of work from Ian for which I was tremendously grateful, he found that it was down to a software problem and nothing wrong with either the Duet or the Bigbox.

Leading on from this it proved that my plywood Bigbox was an amazing piece of equipment and still is. The problem is that your comments have made a lot of potential customers who may have bought my machine turn away and in some case to an Annet ?????? oh boy'
This is Particularly Frederick. Just to let you know Frederick that Veti wasn't in possession of all the facts. Frederic, if you are interested in buying the Plywood Bigbox with Duet 2 Ethernegt and with a brand new unfitted 7" Paneldue then please get in touch with me. We can discuss prices. A comment another poster made about. Prices are what people want to pay and what seller want to accept but the eventually meet in the middle. It's a system that works very, very well, much better than going to auctions.

@jay_s_uk Nice suggestion Jay and I'm a very generous guy normally but as things are at the moment I need to raise every penny I can. For one my bank is screaming at me to make my funds look a bit more like they should 🙂 so as much as I's like to give the Bigbox away as a gift I just cant spare the cash if you follow me. Thanks for the suggestion though, in normal circumstances I would jump at it.

Oh well it looks like I'll have to put it on Fleabay. Other thoughts I had was to sell the Duet 2 and PanelDue to anyone interested on here and sell the basic Bigbox on Ebay. I just don't know what to do. Obviously I don't want to give it away but on the other hand it's way, way too big to have on a narrowboat. Does anyone have any good ideas that may help me dispose of it. Please remember that it's made of plywood and not the dreaded acrylic (I am so glad I chose ply when crowdfunding it). As I mentioned earlier I could sell the Duet parts and fit the Bigbox with a RAMPS system, I have got so many of those I could buy shares 🙂 Can anyone offer thoughts on that way of doing things?
