    • Disable text editor builtin search

I just upgraded from RRF 3.2.2 to 3.4.1 so I can play around with the input shaping plugin, and noticed there is now a builtin search function when editing my config.g. How do I turn this off so I can use my browser's search instead?

    • RE: Stepper Motor Vibration

I got the stepper dampers, and wow, night and day difference. Without a doubt the best thing since sliced bread. they isolate the steppers from the aluminum extrusion extremely well. According to my uncalibrated phone mic, they brought the noise down from 61dB to 48dB. Not a proper scientific study, but fun to play with.

I brought the stepper current back down to 800mA, I didn't notice any noise difference between that and 1200mA with the dampers.

I also got some sorbothane feet to reduce mechanical vibration transferring to my shelf and walls. Way better than felt feet. My next hurdle are the freaking jet engines I have for fans lol.

    • RE: Stepper Motor Vibration

@zapta You're making me excited to have a quiet printer lol. I usually can't run it at night because of the noise.

@deckingman After a three hour print, my steppers at 1.2A seem to have settled at 62C at its hottest point. For some reason I thought they'd be hotter. I'll still try lowering the current until there's an audible change. Really I ought to just print the motor brackets out of nylon for the thermal resistance, but they've worked as PLA for the past few years.

@Phaedrux I've ordered some similar ones, should come in about a week. People who use them seem to think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread, so hopefully I'll see an improvement. In the meantime, I still would like to know if there's any other way to help it through software.

@zapta Not sure why it's not opening for you, I just checked it and it's still fine. In any case, they're the Automation Technology KL17H248-15-4A

Holding an unmounted stepper in my hand is definitely way better than it mounted to my extrusion frame, but I can still feel the step vibrations. I'll have to look into how to better isolate it from the frame. Right now I just have 1/16" cork gasket between the stepper and the printed bracket, maybe some sort of printed TPU pad would be better.

    • RE: Stepper Motor Vibration

Ok, "far too much" was strongly worded. I meant a lot more than necessary for what I need them to do, and the noise difference wasn't very noticeable. I am curious to quantify it though, so I'll leave them at 1200 for a bit and hit them with an IR thermometer.

    • Stepper Motor Vibration

I have the DuetWiFi on a core-xy machine running on 24V, and rather than being noisy during idle like most threads I've read, my steppers vibrate and make noise when moving, especially with faster moves. They're pretty quiet when idle other than the current hiss. These are the steppers I'm currently using.

      Things I've tried:

      • Adjusting the current. I have it at 800mAh now. Going higher seems to help slightly, but generates far too much heat.
      • Changing microstepping. I generally use the default 16x with interpolation enabled, but I also tried every other step rate for kicks.
      • Adjusting chopconf TOFF, HSTRT, and HEND. I've settled on TOFF 1 which made a small difference, but nothing ground breaking. Hysteresis values didn't make any audible difference. I have not exhausted this configuration as I don't have an oscilloscope.

I'm not really sure where to go from here other than just getting some different steppers. I was thinking about these steppers, which I've seen recommended for their low inductance and 0.9° step angle.

    • RE: DuetWiFi 1.21.1 constant disconnects

Yes, you're right, I installed DWC 1.21.1 and firmware 2.0. I also said I downgraded, when in fact I had only downgraded DWC and the wifi server. The firmware doesn't seem to want to downgrade, even if I flash an older version, I didn't notice the downgrade didn't stick until I went to install DWC 1.21. In any case, running 2.0 and DWC/server 1.21 seems to be pretty stable.

    • DuetWiFi 1.21.1 constant disconnects

I've seen a few threads like this floating around but none seem to match the symptoms I'm having so I'm starting a new one.

I upgraded from 1.19 to 1.21.1, following all upgrade notes and process. It looked like it worked properly, and printed some parts, but about every 3 seconds to a minute DWC no longer receives updates from my printer, but doesn't show a disconnect. Sending gcode manually causes it to finally notice the disconnect, and I am able to reconnect without restarting the printer, sometimes.

I downgraded again to 1.19 and this issue disappeared, going on a half hour with no disconnect. M122 shows no abnormalities in either version, other than a somewhat weak wifi signal (about -65dBm). I can't imagine signal strength is the issue though if 1.19 works perfectly, and I get the strange behavior of DWC not recognizing the disconnect.

I didn't see anything I thought relevant on the troubleshooting page in the wiki. 1.19 is working just fine for me, but I'd like to be able to move on to future updates. Any idea how to go about troubleshooting this?

      Thanks in advance!
