B4138 is the default and not correct for your printer
please have a look at the ender 3 guide

These look very default too. i run mine at 750 X and Y and 900 E . I can not remember what i run Z at thou.

@lodger I went through the setup again this is my new config file. I am still getting pauses in the print that causes blobs.

In your first config you had extruder jerk at 30000, and the second one it was 300. I think 3000 is probably a better value.
I suspect that the issue may be in the Cura profile.
Maybe give this profile a try. Ender3.curaprofile.txt
You'll have to remove the .txt extension
-
For the 'Pause and blob' part of this; can I ask which Cura version you use? Is it 4.1? if so, upgrade..
This sounds horribly similar to the very frustrating lightspeed bug where:- The printer is not pausing, it's just taking 20s to travel 0.1mm in Z
- Reasons for this are somewhat comical (at least to me, I've worked with developers a lot and the facepalm factor caused by this commit is quite high)
-
@EasyTarget I am using cura 4.2.1 is there anything I can do to stop the z-axis from taking so long to travel?
-
@Elliot said in Bad print issues:

You have already fixed it by running 4.2.1, this bug only affected v4.1.0, and only for certain types of Cartesian printer definitions. It bit me badly and sounded similar, hence the question.
-
@EasyTarget So if I am running 4.2.1 and still having this issue, it is most likely not cura and a printer setting?
-
@Phaedrux wrote the manual for the ender3 config. Also his Cura profile is good starting point.
Have you followed it from beginning to end especially the calibration of extruder steps and flow rate and put the correct value in Cura under Material - Flow?Is it a standard Ender3 with no modifications apart from the BLT?
Also what filament type are you printing with? PLA or PET-GI know it is a lot of questions, but I made mistakes when I set my Ender3 up, but now it runs smooth as silk thanks to Phaedrux and others on this site.
-
@PaulHew Yes, I also just tried on Simplify3d.
It is a standard ender 3 with a BlTouch.
I am using PLA.
Do you mean these manuals:
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/Ender+3+Pro+and+Duet+Maestro+Guide+Part+2:+Configuration/38
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/Ender+3+Pro+and+Duet+Maestro+Guide+Part+4:+Calibration/40
If not can you please point me in the right direction.
Thanks
-
Yes, you have the right manuals.
Not up on S3D, Could not justify the £140
Check your retraction settings in Cura, try 1.5mm retract 40 speed.
Also you might want to print a temp tower and a retraction test., you could be running too hot and not enough retraction.I do not know what experience you have and I hope I am not teaching you to suck eggs!
Teaching Tech on You Tube had some How-to s on Retraction and the likes, worth checking out. Also Chep's YouTube videos are helpful also.
MakersMuse also on retraction, helped me get rid of the strings.Dont expect miricles on your first prints, but the manual Phaedrux wrote was a god send, and I still use bits of it like the calibration on my
RailCore II.
It took about about week of tweaking after swapping over to the Maestro board to get something semi decent.
Also make sure both sides of the Gantry that the hotend sits on are the same height and that the rollers are 'snug' so there is no slop. Again there are you tube videos on this.As my signature states, I am not running much of the original printer.
Bondtech do a nice hot end conversion kit for Creality. -
@PaulHew I am in the 30-day money-back period of S3D. I thought I would try it if it helped my prints.
No not at all, I am constantly learning and you provided some good places/points to look at.
It's just a bit frustrating. My Ender 3 on stock board was making better prints than what I am getting now. Just wondering how much more tinkering it will take to get to where I was already.
The one thing that I tell my self is nice about the Duet WIFI now is the WIFI aspect of it. However, event that seems very temperamental and it can take around 30 mins to get connected to it and then it randomly drops the connection.

just want to help you can try my config i have a bltouch and e3d hotend and bontech gear exetruder 3:1 you can use my config as and starting point i use an ender 3 pro
