I got that .... but it is not intuitive. It should be a configuration option.
I have said my peace and there it is ... nothing more to add.

I think its alright. one thing I dislike is having to log in after my machine sleeps. Old version would usually leave me logged in unless I rebooted.

Old version also had a Connect button that reconnected very fast. With the new one, the best option I found so far is reloading the page which takes significant time.

Also, renaming the Printing state to Processing is counter intuitive and inconsistent with PanelDue.

It's usable so subjectively seems to be more tedious.

For clarification: DWC2 uses different filenames and some different folders compared to DWC1, so that both can coexist on the same SD card. When you try to load the web interface having entered just the IP address in your browser, recent versions of RRF look first for file index.html (optionally with a .gz on the end). That is what the DWC2 root page file is called. If that isn't found, it looks for reprap.htm (again, optionally with a .gz on the end). That is what the DWC1 root page file is called.

So you can always get DWC 1 by putting /reprap.htm at the end of the IP address in your browser.

If you want DWC1 to be the default, but still have DWC2 available then I think you could achieve that (but I haven't tested it) by renaming the file index.html to (e.g.) dwc2.html. Then put /dwc2.html after the IP address in your browser when you want to load DWC2.

Does DWC2 supersede DWC1 or will DWC1 be maintained just the same? (bug fixes, new features, etc).

Some software upgrades provide a clear value while others keep you wondering why did they do it? 😉

@zapta DWC 1 is very unlikely to receive any new features. The architecture behind DWC 2 is much more extendable and in the future configurable (potentially in the long run you could even make it look like DWC 1 if you wanted to.

users are resistant to change. no matter how good or bad.

the beauty of open source it that you can contribute.
like the dwc. fork it and add new features together with other users that prefer the dwc1
or submit patches to the dwc2 to make it configurable in such a way that you like it.

A counter example: the line before an Apple store before the launch of iPhone N+1. 😉

On the other hand you have to admit that they are quite untiring in releasing crippling firmwares for their hardware, even for the older ones 😉
