@veti it's manual probing. Can i just set length of my Z axis (260 mm), so if I have z max endstop I can home to Z0 without probing because board knows that 260 mm is Z max?
It works like that on other boards.

yes in the configurator https://configurator.reprapfirmware.org/Endstops just select endstop like for x or z instead of probe and endstop location at high end.

          Exactly.

We don't even really need a switch, but that lets us set the Z height once and use the same one every time. Without a switch or probe, we could simply send G92 Znnn at a known height.

On my previous printer (OrdBot Hadron), I had no endstop at all, and always used this technic.

I installed endstops when I sold it 😉

Why would you want to use a Zmax switch instead of a Zmin switch? Setting up a Zmax switch would be time consuming and/or hazardous to your hot-end/print surface. With a Zmin switch, you can tweak it a bit to approach zero, test, and tweak, very quickly with minimal risk of crashing the nozzle into the bed.

@mrehorstdmd I know you didn’t ask me, but I Home Z to max.

Sure it may be slightly less convenient, but my z axis moves surprisingly quick for a screw drive so it’s not overly inconvenient.

As for benefits, it was simply easier than figuring out a reliable way of probing the bed. I will just set the z height manually. Once you have the z height set, homing min or max really makes no difference, does it?

Homing to z max is fine as long as you have you M208 axis maxima measured accurately.

You can setup a macro to measure it accurately by jogging the nozzle to z0 and using g92 z0 to set it and then moving to the max endstop. The distance moved would be in m208.

have you tried used motor stall detection? no endstops needed on the duet wifi.

He pointed to the answer. M558 probe type 0 lets you probe without a probe. If you can't be bothered to read the suggested existing material why should we type it out again in a forum post?

The point of a forum is to discuss the existing material. If it's misunderstood, you can get clarity, but we can't reinvent the wheel over and over.
