Is your slicer using volumetric extrusion?
Have you checked part fan speeds?

PLA printing at 215, its all the same hardware, temps & pla that i used prior to changing to Duet, so i know its tested and works.
Like you say i also think its a setting ive not set properly thats throwing the slow speed printing out

I'm having to say "hmm..." a lot on this one.

Have you watched the status of the print on the DWC (Duet Web Control) and verified the speeds are what they should be - taking into account the various settings of S3D?

@OwenD not sure on the volumetric slicing, will look into that, Fan speed is 100% after layer 1

I've been 3d printing for years but I've only ever used simplify3d, are there any other slicers you'd recommend

prusaslicers standard profile is quite good and easy to setup

Resliced the file, a single wall cube, at full speed 60mms, and a version with a reduced speed down to 20%. The slow file had the same poor extrusion, the fast file prints perfectly.
I then printed another full speed version but this time used the control panel to reduce the print speed to 20% part way through the print.
Once the speed was reduced the poor extrusion started again, increased to 50% and it was still bad, back to 100% and it prints beautifully. That must prove the slicer is okay as the full speed file prints perfectly but shows poor extrusion when slowed down in the printer
It must be a setting I've messed up in the config but I've no idea what it is?

can you post a picture of your printer?

Try reducing the extruder temps by 5 degree steps and printing again at each temp.

It's possible that you are running hotter than you think and cooking the filament.

I think @fcwilt is on to something with the temps.

Even so, to remove the configuration from the equation, can you send M98 P"config.g" in the gcode console and post the response? That would show any syntax errors just in case.

And then to really rule an error in config out, you could generate a fresh config set from the online tool to test with to compare.

Seeing a video of the slow print in action might be worthwile as well.

From the bottom to first black line full speed, down to 20% between first and second line, down to 50% second to third, and then last section 100%

Do you notice any odd movement of the extruder gear when those gaps are made?

check that the grub screws inside the bmg are tight on all the gears.

@Phaedrux no I don't notice any pauses but clearly see it skip three to four mm of extrusion

@Veti checked that at the weekend and performed atomic pull to clear the hot end

Just installed a new Nema17 stepper to replace the pancake stepper and no improvement

@fcwilt looks like you solved it!
Reduced print temp down to 195 and just had a fantastic print. Retried the fast print and the result was just as good. The ramps board must have been giving false temperature readings as it needed 215 to print PLA.
Thank you so much for everyones help and assistance 16063372699657176508103457256290.jpg
