    Ah David I thought that the only change was in the thread didn't realise that the Collar was no longer included. That may mess things up a bit?

      @dc42:

      The new heatsink doesn't come with the threaded collar that the old one did, instead there is a shorter threaded section and a M12 fine pitch half nut and washer. OTOH the effector now has 3 additional 2.9mm holes at 120 degree intervals on a 17mm radius.

      Ah, OK, no problem. New adapter up and coming!
      David, do yo know the height of the top surface to the PCB?

        Not including the collet, it's close to 7.5mm.

        EDIT: I just checked the heatsink drawing and it's 8mm from the PCB centering step to the top. Allowing for the 1.6mm PCB thickness, that should leave 7.4mm from the top of the PCB. The top of the half nut is approximately flush with the top of the heatsink.

          OK, that will work.
          Then I can clamp the adapter on top of that and lock the PTFE tube in, without need for the collet.

            @Dougal1957:

            The PCB Effector with Nimble and mounting adaptor plus custom E3D V6 comes in at 159 grammes.

            Don't know how the Flex would fit TBH the mounting for the custom heatsink is 3x M3 holes on a 18mm PCD which would be tight.

            Right time to go put it back on the printer

            where is the fan for the print piece?
            we need one to have good quality print.

            i agree the nimble is top notch but if i need to buy everything i will have for 280e only for the head..110euro for arm+rod kit+ 60euro for pcb+100 with shpping cost for nimble..it s a lot expansive
            it s almost the price for my anycubic i3 mega only for parts..

                That's a nice feature being able to disconnect it easily, due to the magnets and the electrical couplings used. Is there one connector for the whole effector, or multiple connectors?

                  OK, new adapter is available.
                  This adapter is mounted onto the PCB using 6.6 mm tall standoffs. The PCB has 3 holes of 2.9 mm diameter and the adapter has space for 3 M2.5 bolts that go through the standoffs.

                  The bottom of the adapter sits on top of the hot end and has a 4mm opening that is 5 mm deep. This hole is for the PTFE tube. It locks the tube into the hot end, so that there is no need for the collet.

                  edit: corrected the standoff length.

                    @dc42:

                    Bear in mind that to use the Nimble with the production effector, you will need a different adaptor compared to the prototype that Doug used. The new heatsink doesn't come with the threaded collar that the old one did, instead there is a shorter threaded section and a M12 fine pitch half nut and washer. OTOH the effector now has 3 additional 2.9mm holes at 120 degree intervals on a 17mm radius.

                    Damn, I ordered the adapter from shapeways last weekend..

                    Hopefully they are able to cancel the order

                      Will this be available from shapeways too?
                      I ordered the Nimble today (and already got the tracking number)

                          Hello. It's my first message in this forum but I has been reading it for a few month. Sorry for my english it's not my native language. I'm going to build my first delta 3D printer based on David's Kossel XL. I've got almost all main mechanical parts: extrusions, buildplate, heater, stepper motors etc. Now I'm waiting for the PCB effector to order it with electronics (Duet an so on). On the way to me is the Nimble extruder which I want to pair with the effector. Reading this thread I got sure that the adaptor from shapeways allow me to do that (obviously can't print it myself). But now I see that I need a new version of the adaptor. So it is a question. Can I order this new adaptor from shapeways right now or should I wait some time before this version will be available there? Thanks in advance.

                              That is a new one is the same as the old adaptor except it needs to use 7.4mm stands that I should make by myself?

                                it is quite a bit different to the old one although it may look the same and the stand offs can be purchased tho wether you will get 7.4 mm ones I am not sure but 10 would do you would just have to extend the PTFE Tube a bit further I think check ebay for standoffs.

                                Found some 8mm long ones here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M3-M4-M5-M6-M8-Nylon-plastic-spacers-standoff-washers/282477022050?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D757a377c307d47cf806cde39a5736fa8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D272505748740 you will also need some m2.5 screws and nuts probably around 20mm long screws should do I think

                                  Thank you! It is just not obvious that the link points to a new version of adaptor as it looks much the same as the old one that I was ready to order before read las posts in this thread. So I will order this right now and if I got it right I can use standard bronze or plastic standoffs that used for PCB mounting. Thanks one more!

                                    just hold off for a bit Lykle is still working on it with input from me as well.

                                    He is adding the standoffs as part of the print we just need to get the hight correct first?

                                      I think M3 screws make the job better. 2.9mm hole diameter is exact size of external dia of M3 thread so it seems that David chose this size for precize positioning with M3 screws, IMHO.

                                        the fact that the PTFE Tube is locked in the bottom of the adaptor should locate it adequately

                                          OK, after some work, and a nice discussion with Doug, I have wrapped up the design for the adapter.

                                          It now features a nice set of integrated legs, 6.6 mm long as we want to make sure we do not bend the PCB when mounting the adapter. No idea if it will hinder the working of the sensor embedded in the PCB.

                                          So the Shapeways model is now complete and ready.
                                          The Thingiverse page holds the 2 models, the legless one and the legged one. (If you look at the adapter standing there you will realise why I am calling it the Grand Piano adapter)
