[Feature request] Add model preview to paneldue

I think it would be possible in general to integrate a model preview although it needs to be rendered somewhere else. So the image would be rendered somewhere and then you can watch it on the screen.
I wonder where is the real benefit for the user except that it looks cool?
And I would assume you had previously a decent look at the model when you chose it and decided to print it. Right?
Can you please provide more arguments why this is a nice idea?
@Exerqtor, I agree the UI could look more modern. What features from other printers do you miss?
well, the main benefit could be an easier browsing of the gcode to print, and yes, it would be cool...

what do you mean by "browsing of the gcode to print"? choosing the right gcode file?
-
are you going to be able to get all that data up that serial cable, and possibly a memory issue in the paneldue?

Most model displays in the control screen of printers are just preview images created by the slicer. That I think could be implemented in a redesigned PD. But live rendering? I would not want this. Massive waste of resources in your control screen (even if it was technically possible). If you really what this, do it via DWC and the Gcode viewer plugin on a tablet display don't burden the Panel Due.
I used to struggle with the PD's UI. You see other products and they look really cool and at first glance the PD looks so dated. Then I actually print something and realize that everything I really need to see is on the PD and is easy to read. Actually elegant in its efficiency.

I don't want live rendering too

Good morning, would it be possible in future to have a thumbnail for the GCODE in printing in pane2? Maybe have an option to choose if keep on seeing the actual status view or a new view with the thumbnail...
We looked at this last year. Unfortunately the data compression algorithm used to encode the thumbnail needs more than 32kb of RAM to decompress the data, and the current PanelDue hardware doesn't have enough spare.

@dc42 uh, ok.... thanks

Here's the old thread...

@thedragonlord if we upgraded the processor in PanelDue from ATSAM4S4B to ATSAM4S8B then there would be enough RAM. But it would probably make more sense to redesign it around the ESP32-C3 instead.

Preview images with QOI are now supported since pd-3.4.1-pre1.
