Wouldn't it be nice to have a fan speed control like for the "Extruder %"?

I'm mainly printing ABS and often have to tweak the fan speed a little bit. For example when I'm decreasing the fan speed then I have to do that every time the GCODE has changed the fan speed again.

I'd love to see this 🙂

the problem is, if you use the Auto Fan option of Prusa or Superslicer you can only change the actual fanspeed on the panel. but every time the gcode sends a new speed it overide the speed you have choosen at the panel. Simply dont use auto fan speed and just use a fixed fan speed and it wont overwritten by gcode

@barracuda72 I think @MartinNYHC is saying he'd like an extra multiplier on the fan speed commanded by the print file (like the speed multiplier, or extrusion multiplier in DWC).

I definitely see it as being useful to tweak the fan settings part way through a print (e.g. if you see one part getting over heated), particularly for spiral vase type prints, where you spend a lot of time (and materials!) doing the base layers before getting to the faster and more heat/cooling sensitive spiral walls. Different filaments and different shapes will behave differently, so being able to tweak on the fly would be nice

@engikeneer dont see the problem...Fan can only be 100% max..so whats a multiplier good for? Without some autofan Features you set the fan for example to 30% in the slicer...so DWC shows 30%..you see midprint its not enough cooling so you set it to 50% of max fan speed. if it would be a multiplier..what would happen...you set it to 200% ( so...instead of the 30%max speed its set to 60%) only advantage i see is if you use autofan feature so if set to a multiplier of 200% its always the double of what you choose in the slicer. DDrawback is, that it might be too much for some prints( for example..ABS set to 20% because heated chamber...but spins up shortly for brigdes

@barracuda72 that is exactly the point. If you realise part way through a print (using auto fan from slicer) that you got the fan settings wrong (too high or too low), your only option currently is to cancel the print and reslice.

I'm not suggesting this is a config.g type setting. More something that can be tweaked to save (or at least improve) a print where the slicer settings weren't 100% correct, like the extrusion or speed multiplier. So many other things can be tuned on the fly, a fan multiplier might be a nice addition

I suppose you could remap the toolfan to a new fan number and control it manually. The slicer fan commands wouldn't do anything anymore. But that would only get you a fixed manually set fan speed, not one that scales with slicer commands.

DWC used to have (still does maybe?) a pin next to the fan speed slider for the tool that would let you fix the speed, but it was only active while the DWC window was open. I'm not sure if it's still there or not. I rarely look at DWC at all in my workflow.
