Not retaining network IP

My Duet 2 has recently stopped retaining the network IP address and I keep having to set up from beginning to get it to work. Any reason why this might be happening or have I changed an appropriate setting recently without meaning to. Appreciate any help.

Are you manually defining the IP address on the Duet, or are you letting the router assign an IP address via DHCP?

DHCP leases may have expired and it got a new address. If this is the case, it's best to setup a DHCP reservation on your router so that the Duet is always assigned the same address. This is preferred to manually forcing an IP address on the Duet, since then you have to avoid IP conflicts yourself.

@phaedrux Thankyou for getting back. My connection is wireless and I have used the same IP address for a few years which was established using the Yat software at initial setup. I assume this is using DHCP. How do I go about defining the reservation as you have suggested. As I said it worked flawlessly for years now I need to use the Yat software to get in and a new IP is allocated each time. Appreciate any help you can give me.

The steps needed to do a DHCP reservation will depend on your wireless router. You'd need to check your manual.

If that proves impossible, you could try setting the IP address in the config.g but you risk using an IP address that your wireless router could give to another device, causing a conflict. You'd need to determine the IP address range being used by the router and pick an address outside of that range.

@phaedrux I have been using the process as attached for manually setting the ip. The duet doesn’t seem to remember it and next time I switch on I have to start the process again. Am I missing a point in the setup where I should be saving the ip?

How are you trying to define the IP address currently?

Over wifi you can set the Duet address when setting up the SSID you connect to with M587

Inn.nn.nn.nn (optional) IP address to use when connected to this network. If zero or not specified then an IP address will be acquired via DHCP.

@phaedrux I have been using M587 via Yat software and as defined in the process you attached, each time a new ip is assigned and I can run machine but this ip is not being retained when I return in a few days time. Will go through the process again tomorrow and let you know incase I am doing something wrong.

Can you send M587 by itself and see what it reports?

Yes. It should report something like:

M587
Remembered networks:
BT-3HATHX IP=0.0.0.0 GW=0.0.0.0 NM=0.0.0.0

Do this before you set it in YAT. You should get a list of all remembered networks.

@droftarts Thanks Ian for your help, you have probably worked out I am no expert at this. When I put in M587 as suggested I get response as photo attached. I tried M588 to remove remembered network which doesn’t look right. .14 (there are usually 3 numbers.) Removing it doesn’t work, I am sure I am missing something. When I try setting up new ip using M587 I get OK response but never get the new ip address

First, you'll need to change the line endings in YAT so we can see multiple lines.

Second, the command to forget networks is M588 S"*"

Also, sending M552 by itself will give some information as well.

@phaedrux have managed to get new ip 192.168.1.156. And got machine working, it seems to be retaining ip so far. The files just sent were taken after achieving 192.168.1.156 ip

You should give the Duet a fixed IP in your router.
Otherwise it can happen if your Duet is switched off and a new device dials into your WLAN, the Duet will be assigned a new IP the next time it is started.

If this is the case, look in your router menu for the devices that have connected via WLAN.
There you will also see the newly assigned IP for the Duet and you can connect to the DWC via browser.

If your Duet has a fixed IP in your router, this will no longer happen if other or new devices take the IP away from the Duet.

Have a look on YouTube how to assign a fixed IP to a device in your router.
I'm almost certain there is such a video.
