Duet 3 SBC wiring

Hey,

So first time using the duet 3 6hc board in SBC.

I have been looking at the ribbon cable for the last few days and just completely confused if this is right!

Did duet change the ribbon cable in later models to what their wiki shows?

This is what it currently looks like.

Any advice before I power it up

@lukeatkin That looks fine. The cable might be a bit longer than the one pictured in the documentation, eg https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Machine_configuration/SBC_setup
The 4 I have here are the same as yours, and 200mm long.
It doesn't particularly matter which side the ribbon cable enters the plastic moulded connector. I think the orientation has changed from the early days (when the pictures were taken) to make the cable run a bit easier.

thank you for clarifying i have now been brave enough to power it up

So spent last night working out mainsail and Klipper,

i get ALOT of errors but i am unsure i have even set it up right, following the steps to flashing the firmware, i get a to a step where i configure the flash file in SSH and it asks about GPio pins to enable on startup? is a parameter needed for this?

@lukeatkin if you’re installing Klipper firmware, you need to connect the SBC via USB, not with the ribbon cable; I don’t think direct connection via ribbon cable is supported in Klipper.

You use the ribbon cable if you choose RepRapFirmware as your firmware, rather than Klipper. To install RRF with an SBC see https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Machine_configuration/SBC_setup

We don’t support Klipper on this forum; use the Klipper documentation and Discord, where there is a category for Duet hardware.

ok thank you for that, i wish id known that lol

ill check the discord but may be high time to hang up the duet boards if they arent compatible.

@lukeatkin the Duet boards are compatible with Klipper, and work very well. The 6HC is a bit more difficult to get working, so I understand, but the others should be relatively straightforward. I think CAN works a bit easier on Duet with Klipper than other boards, though limited to CAN, not CAN-FD..

Yes, it seems to be somwhat more difficult, and not impossible,

I cant give up on the duet boards when looking at this realistically, as they are a heavy investment and are genuinley a good, reliable board, so i took a different angle last night.

im going to have a play with DSF with the Pi and printer and work from there. this should open up some options that i am after.

I created on open in the Duet GPIO 26 pin to 40 pin cable. I purchased another one from Geekpi and it will not allow the PI 5 to boot. I believe the Duet cable is wired differently than the downgrade 26 Pin to 40 pin cable. I have wired as pictured and the red light just blinks. There is only one other way to install the 40 pin and that wouldn't work either. Where might I find the original Duet 3 6HC to Pi GIPO cable.

@Polyneutron21 it is wired straight through from the first 26 pins on the pi header to the duet header.

Thank you for verifying that. Something must have happened to the GPIO of the 6HC or Pi 5.
