A curious printhead for the E3D Motion System
-
I've added nothing to the bottom so that space is free for the sensing coil.
I should be able to mount the board to the side of the housing.
I'm using the tool distribution board (TDB) so the CAN bus runs from the TDB to the each tool board and back, utilizing the termination on the TDB.
Can I stub the CAN bus for the SZP controller board off of the CAN bus to the tool board?

Yes you can. It may be convenient to make the SZP the last board on the CAN bus and to enable its termination resistor. You can try getting 5V power for the SZP from the IO0 connector on the tool board, but check that the tool board doesn't get too hot because it uses a linear 5V regulator.

@fcwilt Wouldn't it be easier to use a roto or other toolboard that has the SZP built into it for the toolchanger board? I'm currently using one of the Fly boards on my e3d toolchanger for exactly that purpose.

Never heard of them.
Do you have a link or a product name I could search on?

This unit?
Why the non-rectangular shape? Is it designed to fit something in particular?
Thanks.

@fcwilt thats the one.
Fits on the back of a nema 14. Most extruder designs use these now -

@fcwilt Or you could use the Duet Roto Toolboard, that also has the SZP built in. https://www.duet3d.com/Duet3RotoToolboard

That is new to me.
And the BEST part - I get to buy new tools and spare parts for the connectors I've never seen before!
Thanks for the info. I will check it out.

I downloaded the step file for the tool board you mentioned but it has some funny bits.
What are all those little white dots?
Perhaps the file needs some work?

@fcwilt I've no idea, perhaps one of the Duet folks knows? @droftarts ?
