      @danal I have a 24v bed so I prefer a 500 watt supply.

        @danal I bought the LRS-350-24 and wonder what the difference to yours NES-350-24 is? Your is 50% more expensive, but I cannot find other differences. Ok, your is a bit higher than mine (50 vs 30 mm).

          I'd make sure that it's galvanicly isolated, and you're probably good to go

          I've seen some very high efficiency (98% i think) industrial LED (constant current) PSUs which sent out constant ~400v dc from the "+" connector, and varied the voltage of the "-" connector to acheive the pre-set constant current. This method probably has a name but I'm not versed enough in the subject, and it's probably not the case with your psu, just be careful with "unknown" industrial ones!

            @dc42 I don't think it has a fan due to the efficiency. Time will tell.

            If it's 92% efficient at 500W output, then it has to get rid of 40W of heat. It will definitely have a fan.

              I have an industrial MeanWell supply in one of my printers (that machine is at the makerspace due to noise level), same situation- 24V 450W bed heater. It was a big mistake. The cooling fan in the supply is just short of a vacuum cleaner in noise level. The money I spent on the power supply could have paid for a line powered heater and a quiet power supply.

              I'm going to replace the heater with a line powered unit, and use a MeanWell LRS-200-24 supply instead (no fan!). I've put those supplies in 3 printers and they are great!

                That's what I have - mains powered bed heater and fanless PSU. That's the trouble with the Duet boards - the motors are so quiet that other sources of noise start to become intrusive ☺

                  Anyone else have low to no-noise 24V PSU? Im thinking to change my setup from 12V ( 450W server PSU) to 24V. Bed is already on main power...so i guess 120-150W would be enough. Read tons of PSU descriptions but theres nothing about noise level in it.

                    @barracuda72

                    The MeanWell LRS-200-24 is good for 8.8 A @ 24V and has no fan, so there's no noise. They are available from multiple sources, usually for <$30 in the US. Here's one: https://www.onlinecomponents.com/mean-well/lrs20024-47466825.html?ref=adwordsfeed&msclkid=3699defc8739188aafb885beb51a3f54&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=sl&gt%3B&gt%3Bpower+supplies&gt%3B&gt%3Bsku&gt%3B&gt%3Bmean+well&gt%3B&gt%3Bpower+supplies&gt%3B&gt%3Blrs-200-24&utm_term=lrs-200-24&utm_content=sku

                    That's cheaper than a lot of the no spec/no cert "LED" power supplies from China, and it comes with a warranty.

                      If you are in the UK, there is this one http://ooznest.co.uk/3D-Printer-Electronic-Parts/Power-Supplies/24V-200W-Power-Supply. Cheap as chips but it's being doing me proud for the last 18 months or so.

                        So my XCSF500C arrived this morning. I have to figure out how to mount it, but as I suspected, it has NO fan. It's made in Italy and not a no name LED supply. It says maintain 2 inches above and below and there is no mention of forced air cooling in the spec sheet. I plan to cool it and the Duet with a large slow turning fan. It has every kind of protection imaginable including over temp. Now the E3D V6 fan is the loudest thing on the printer.

                        edit: I wanted to make the point that the spec sheet says to de-rate the supply 25% if mounted horizontally. And leave 2 inches of air space above and below, and half an inch either side. This clearly indicates this thing is made to rely on convection alone to keep it's cool. Nice 🙂
