      Hi There,
Not sure if anyone can help, but just purchased my New Duet Wifi. Ive set it up via my computer, all working fine. Installed it on my E3D Bigbox. Turned it back on, and the board went bang and a chip on the board caught fire. As excepted the board now doesnt work and if i plug it back into the computer it doesnt see it and comes up with an USB error. The PanelDue also doesnt come on as well when plugged into the Duet, and works fine via the micro USB but doesnt connect.
      Please Help

        Which chip? Picture?

My money's on 24v getting fed into the 3.3v rail.

No sure, theres not much of it left, Its small square chip close to the fan inputs and the jumpers infront of them.

Sounds like U2, which is the Vin -> 3.3v regulator. It goes bang when backfed 24v on the 3.3v rail. Most likely the rest of the board is non-functional now, as all the 3.3v parts have been fed 24v.

I cant see the component number for the chip, but its very close to U3, if that helps

                Hi,

Sorry to hear you fried your Duet.

It really helps to be a little OCD when wiring up things like the Duet.

I don't double check my connections, I triple check them, sometimes more.

And then I check them all again. 🙂

If you post some photos of your wiring/setup, might be able to spot something.

A possible cause is +24v getting into the heaterblock, and the heaterblock touching the IR sensor (which is on the 3.3v rail).

As suggested post some photos. It is likely that there is a wiring error OR perhaps a short.

Anything on the underside of the board that could have shorted something?

I'm sorry to hear that your board has failed. Please post a photo of the damage so that I can identify which chip has failed.

Thanks. I don't think that failure was caused by your wiring. Please ask for your Duet to be replaced under warranty, referencing this thread. See https://www.duet3d.com/warranty.
