It's a little hard to tell from the renderings and pics but can someone confirm that the 26 pin connector polarity notch faces in towards the MPU?

@bearer Yeah but you can't tell in those pics because the cable exits the IDC pins to the left (inwards) but then loops back through the strain relief towards the right and out. I can't see the notch.

@gtj0 I suppose its not given the notch is on the left hand side in those pictures although the red stripe indicating pin 1 would suggest that, which side the cable exits shouldn't affect pin 1 and the notch.

I've learned through bitter experience not to take for granted the relationship between the notch and pin 1. About 10 years ago I had a local company make me 100 10-pin cables and they didn't bother to follow my spec. Apparently 3 different people made the cables so I got 3 different orientations.

Anyway, I'm experimenting with different cable lengths and right now I'm getting great results with a 300mm cable at a 1MHz clock rate but only if I alternate the signal lines with grounds. In fact it still looks great at 5HMz. I was toying with using some twisted pair as well but twisted pairs aren't all that effective in unbalanced circuits.

@gtj0 the 26 way header notch goes in, towards the center of the Duet 3 mainboard. The Duet 3 has a keyed header.

                    Mine is here! Yay!

From reading this thread, and the new wiki, it is a little unclear to me if the included SD card is should already have an image on it. The one I received formatted, but empty. Installing the image now...

Edit update: Image installed, booted, connected via both Web and SSH, everything works just fine. Now, to pick a printer to receive this beauty... 🙂

Mine certainly had an image on else I would have been lost as I know very little about the way Linux interacts (I know a lot more now since I got this thing on Saturday)

Did the Duet 3 just get classified as a "gateway drug"? 😮

@T3P3Tony Have you guys tested to determine the maximum practical SPI clock rate the Duet3 can handle, irrespective of cable characteristics?

@gtj0 it is determined by cable length. With the cables we supply we expect at least 10Mhz will work well, Iam currently running 5Mhz with no issues and after TCT will try extended periods with 10Mhz.

The image comes with 1Mhz as a default - thats conservative but till allows for a high throughput.

I despise bothering you like this, but is there any news on any units being available? I've got cash in hand, and this would be PERFECT on the rig I am putting together!

Doug instructed me to come bother you. 😁

                                Thanks!

Current plans are to ship the next batch in November, following EMC testing for CE/FCC certification and any resulting changes we need to make. We were planning to open a pre-order for that batch next week, but that may be difficult because of the TCT show.

Received my Duet3 today......looking at this up close for the first time, as couple thoughts come to mind.

                                    (1) it's bigger than I expected. I actually prefer that it is a bit bigger because it gives the impression of more of a "motherboard" or "mainboard" which is what I wanted out of the Duet2 initially.

                                    (2) there are two different type of headers on this, the motor headers are significantly "beefier"
(Kinda wish they were the same like tan-ish color though.....first world problems 😆)

                                    (3) lotta components on this board....getting me excited and I haven't even plugged it in yet!!!

                                    (4) there's two RJ45 ports on it?? Hmmm, okay, cool.

                                    (5) kinda wish someone would hit these with a fine file, knife, or like red or blue scotchbright before they got sent out, I have it here, I just wish I didn't have to, again, first world problems.

                                    Excited to use it!!!

                                    Thank you!

Should be a RJ45 (8 pin) for Ethernet* and a RJ11 (6pin) for the CAN bus on the production board, but at a glance they look somewhat similar

*) when used standalone firmware and SD card instead of RaspberryPi

There was a blog some time ago how to destroy a Duet 2, information how to avoid it. I would find it helpful to have the same information for the new Duet 3: what should one avoid in any case (wrong voltage at pin x/connecting pin x with y, connection cable etc.). It can be a short list which can be print out and hang it over the board while one wires it up. A cheat sheet with a caution list and the Duet 3 board as image with the dangerous places marked red.
