Looks nice! What led you to choose repetier server over DWC?
-
Christian, that looks great! Nicely enclosed, good build volume. And, it is great to have a printer that is pre-built and just "comes with" a Duet to recommend to people who ask.
However... same question as above: Why not either a PanelDue or the Pi running a web browser and DWC? Running anything else would seem to undo quite a bit of the advantages of a Duet board.
-
I can only concur with what has already been said, to use repetier server is in my humble opinion a major faux pas, verging on stupidity..... akin to buying a lamborghini and pulling four plugs out of one bank of cylinders....
Other than that the mechanics and aesthetics look nice.
But seriously Ditch repetier server otherwise I dont think you will sell too many units.
-
I have no experience with Repetier host, so my question was completely in good faith by the way. I think whatever moved Christian to choose Repetier host is likely interesting to Chris Hamm as a differential to current DWC ...

Maybe cause you cant't have a custom UI on the PanelDue (or ist that possible)?

the source code is available and can be customised.
-
@veti yeah sure it is but it is not that easy (or is it)?
-
you asked if its possible, not if its easy.
-
true.
@CR3D what magnetic build plattform are you using that it can stand 120°C. Is it a magnetic flex plate or spring steel?

I think the lack of ease to modify the PanelDue interface is one of the reasons for the next generation Duet using a Raspberry Pi as well. Wide range of touch screens and simpler to adapt DWC. Not sure why OP went with Repeteir instead of DWC, maybe prior experience? Maybe he felt offering integrated slicing was a added value?
-
@bearer Repetier host has an integrated slicer? That would indeed be an up-side I would immediately understand to motivate this decision.

seems its a feature of the pro version of repetier server (never tried it, went with octoprint instead at the time)

A tablet (or similar) with DWC was also suggested. Or almost anything but a USB interfaced, last millenium, legacy, hamstrung... you get the drift...
-
Sorry Guys... I was not available for a few days!
@oliof
I use the raspberry pi with repetier server, because the touch and web interface is really clean and easy!
It is simply very clear and now in the near future there will be a program to manage all the printers in one interface. and that makes a lot of sense in printing-farms!And it is not Repetier-Host... it is repetier-Server! But it´s quite the same, both with usb connection!
-> Question: Is it possible to bring the DWC to the raspberry pi?
@CaLviNx
Thank you for your honest opinion! and I can understand it very well, because I often ask the same question! yes it is actually stupid if you throttled down the performance of duet! But unfortunately it really is the case that the companies prefer this surface and thus accept the performance restrictions.@bearer
Yes in the next time there will be an integrated slicer from repetier! -
Yes the build plattform can stand 120°C. There is a magnetic sheet and then a spring steel with the print surface on it...

see https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/11540/duet-3-mainboard-6hc-initial-production-run/85
(i.e. dwc is already on the pi, but 2nd gen duet support is more of a maybe. 3rd gen is ready to rumble)
