PID Hotend Autotune - How Long?
-
I actually noticed it today myself, but when PID tuning my bed. It went on for 30 minutes before I stopped it. Just looped into heating up/down forever. Seems like something new in 3.2.2?
-
@pkos Yes the PID algorithm in 3.2 has been updated to better handle larger slower heaters. It can take some time for it to run through it's cycles due to the time it takes to cool down. Best to just let it finish.
-
I'll give it another try then, although 30 minutes got me worried
-
@pkos May take an hour or two in some cases.

@Phaedrux
May I chime in here?
I had the same endless phase 3 tuning phase lately and the fan didn't stop (because it's a thermostatic setup?)
Running rrf3.2I blamed it on the Chimera dual hotend. I had the second tool set to a low standby temp of 140°C because I thought that PID tuning only makes sense in a real world scenario.
The fan was mapped to both heaters, which might explain the PID tuning failure. -

Your part cooling fan is thermostatically controlled?

That would do it, it's waiting for it to cool down and if the heater next to it is keep it from doing that it can never finish.

No, I thought, the fan- discussion above was about the heatsink fan...
What else can we do with a dual hotend? PID tune it in a scenario that's not real? It's a hypothetical question, because I already ripped out this dual nozzle catastrophy.
-
@o_lampe define the ambient (think there's a parameter for that now) as 10deg warmer than the unused nozzle will get to? That way it will think it has cooled down even if it does only drop to 50deg.
I have a chimera on my printer and just updated to 3.2.2. Guess there's only one way to find out...!

@engikeneer
Let's hope you get it working. I had former experience with the chimera on a Delta and the unused nozzle always scratched around on the fresh print, peeling it off the bed.
I'd hoped it would be different on aCoreXY, but NO. -

Its been going on for almost an hour now.. I see the temp graph change, up and down.. but how long does this usually take?
Watched the other day a video by Voron's Nero, he was using RRF on a non duet board and complained about the PID time.
