Duet 2 wifi struggles to load my files.
-
Hi Duet users, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. My Duet 2 wifi has never loaded files very consistently. It is so strange. Some files load instantly. Some files will never load. I can load a file I create from my cad programs. It will load fine and run a nice print. Then If I delete that file and try to re-load. It might load. I can go through my files testing the files that load. Some load instantly. Many that I have even printed before will not load. I have checked everything, And read this forum for many hours studying this. All my testing and checks seem to be fine. My gateway is about two feet from the Duet. -29 dbm signal. 32 gig sd card formatted to fat 32. I have tried a few different sd card's. Nothing seems to fix this very intermittent loading problem. I have looked super close at the soldering. The sd card holder looks fine. But the wifi module the solder looks like it might not have enough solder on a few pads. Its just so strange how it loads so fast with some files. And files over a few mega bytes will never load. Any ideas would be so helpful.

@specktech It would probably help if you provided a step by step description of what it is you are doing and what happens.

@gloomyandy Hi there, I use a number of different cad programs, I draw up items then save as a stl file. Then I send them to simplify 3d, Then send them to my Elite Machine Works UXL. Many files load very quickly and will print perfectly. Many files that I have created will sometimes load or they just thow the network disconnect error. Example. I drew up this nice little part a few days ago. I loaded the file and printed it. Came out beautiful. I deleted the file from the duet. Tried to re-load it. It is so hit or miss. Sometimes it loads. But this intermittent operation is really frustrating. I have tried so many different things. I have never upgraded my firmware though. Capacity. 31.91 GB, free space 31.89 GB, speed 20.00mbytes/sec, cluster size 64kb, -29dbm signal strength. Duet web control 2.0.7, Board duet wifi 1.02 or later, firmware wifi/ethernet 2.05.1, Duet wifi server version 1.23 Any ideas why certain files load perfectly and others will barely load? Sometimes I try to load files from Thingiverse. Some load fine others will never load. So I thought it was a thingiverse problem. When I draw up my own models in my Viacad pro V12. They load more consistently. But many still throw the network disconnect error. Any tips would be so awesome.

Can you share the results of M122?
Updating the firmware may help, but would take a bit of work on your part. Generally though, once you're updated it's easier to stay abreast with the current releases.
What size are the files you're trying to load? And when you say load, do you mean start another print with them?

@specktech I’d go through theses steps troubleshooting the issue:
- Move away WiFi AccessPoint, too close for a WiFi is also not good.
- Copy all the content to new SD card formatted with SD Memory Card Formatter just because.
- If upgrading firmware to the latest seems mega effort (hence config file must be tweaked if going up through the versions) only upgrade to highest within the release aka v1 to 1.26.1, v2 to 2.05.1
- Try clean config on spare SD card and see if it’s still being weird (easiest way is 10x clicks through https://configtool.reprapfirmware.org to generate generic config, no need really for any data more than right board, firmware version and WiFi details for the testing purposes)
- With clean config you could try to upgrade to the latest firmware 3.4.0 to see if that’s the fix, you can always revert back to old firmware via Bossa app method.
- Unplug everything but power to see maybe some of the components are causing some interference.
- Talking interference, turn off/unplug any other devices nearby. Things like radio baby monitors for example could simply hinder WiFi useless. I’ve seen power supplies generating enough “noise” to affect WiFi.
- Talking PSU’s, try unplugging PSU and power duet via USB brick aka phone charger.

@specktech As I recall I had these issues with a Duet3 6HC and a firmware upgrade fixed it complete.
