      @Garfield Makes sense.....I think I was on something magical when I thought about the stepper being 12v......Should have gotten more sleep. I forgot stuff I should have remembered since I have been away from 3d printing for awhile due to health issues. Thanks for explaining

      If the Tx and Rx lines are reversed, I would not expect to get backlight only - I would expect to get a normal screen but no status to be received. I am surprised if you saw something different.

      No, you can't get 24V out of a 12V PSU other than by using a boost converter.
