It's possible to measure the distance to the endstop indirectly. If you do a normal G1 S1 homing move, then when the endstop is triggered the axis position will be set to the limit that you configured using M208. But if you use G1 S3 instead, then when the endstop is triggered the M208 limit will be set to the current axis position instead. So you could use a G1 S3 move at each layer change, then M208 without parameters to display the new M208 axis limits.

Well, I just found out here that there was a physical change for paneldue v2. Just checked, and realized I have one of each from my last two orders!

It would be nice to be informed of major changes in hardware. Part of ordering multiple of the "same" part is having a reliable supply of compatible parts.

In fact active low enables are the default, so you shouldn't need to use M569 to change the polarity. The drives will get enabled when they are first commanded to move. Sending M1 or M18 or M84 disables them.
