    • RE: Shorted fan wire on the Smart Effector

      Thanks for the advice.

Even though this Duet 2 Wifi card is pretty old (having come to me out of a different printer that was headed to the scrapheap), it seems to be new enough to have a fan fuse.

Although it looked ok, putting my multimeter across the fuse blades showed it is kaput.

I’ll swap it out and see how we go.

      Thanks again

Yes - I can confirm that by “set correctly” I mean that there is no jumper.

I’ll have a look and see what I can figure out, but to be honest, I’m a bit dirty that I only just got this printer built, working and dialled in, and now I have to pull it apart again just as I got to the fun bit. 😞

That said, I’m happy with the Smart Effector, except for this failure. I think it has become an essential component in any decent Delta build.

    • Shorted fan wire on the Smart Effector

So I’ve has a bit of a catastrophic event.

The one of the wires from the heat sink fan came lose where it connects to the Duet Smart Effector (v2) and shorted on the other one.

There was a spark at the fan connector, but I can’t smell anything at the board or effector, but now none of the fans including the hot end fan, parts fan, and the cooling fans for the Duet 2 Wifi work. The probe isn’t registering either. I basically get nothing from the effector (the LED lighting though stopped working about a week after I installed the effector).

The board still connects to wifi, and I can get the system to home upwards (to the end stops, which also seem to be working fine). Obviously if the effector is dead, I can deal with that, but the fact that the fan on the Duet 2 Wifi is also not working is concerning.

So my question - any ideas what I have broken? This is my first printer I have built with a duet 2 wifi and smart effector, so I’m not super familiar with the hardware, but not totally unfamiliar with printer and other electronics (its not my speciality, but I can solder if I have to).

    • LED lighting has stopped working

So three weeks of use and the LED illumination on my V2 smart effector no longer works. The heat sink fan works fine, and I understand that they are supposed to be linked.

I’m running the system on 24V, with the jumper set appropriately. It worked great for the first couple of weeks.

What should I be looking at?

    • RE: Issues with Smart Effector Probe and thermistor connection

@droftarts I think I got the probe working. Not really having any better ideas, I inverted both the z probe in pin and the z mod pin in the cogfig.g. When that didn’t work, I inverted just one pin at a time. Apparently having the mod pin inverted did the trick, and it works, although I have absolutely no idea why that is the case.

I also plugged in a spare thermistor directly into the board and it worked fine, so I’ll do a little fault-finding. Perhaps it is a bad sensor...

    • RE: Issues with Smart Effector Probe and thermistor connection

So I had a tinker and have inverted the MOD pin.

Now on DWC I can at least see the probe, which reads zero when at idle and goes red with values from about 700 to 1000 when I tap the nozzle.

I’m unsure of what normal behaviour is supposed to be, but this probably isn’t it…

    • Issues with Smart Effector Probe and thermistor connection

      Hi there,

I’m trying to commission a new scratch-built delta, which is running a Smart Effector connected to a Duet 2 Wifi. While I have used a similar configuration in the past, I have never set one up. The Smart Effector is brand new, while the Duet 2 Wifi is old and came to me second hand (and running RRF version 2, which I upgraded).

I’m having issues with both my thermistor and the Smart Effector’s Z-probe. In DWC, the nozzle is reporting -273 degrees. I’m assuming that this means it isn’t getting a signal. Also, whenever I try to run the Delta calibration command (G32), I am told that the Z probe is not detected.

It seems the probe is working on the effector, since I can tap the nozzle and the green LED lights up in response. This also suggests that the power is getting to the effector fine (so at least 2 of the wires in that connector work).

I’m guessing that the issues are in either the way I have connected it, or the software settings. I have also checked the wiring for continuity issues, and it seems that is all fine (but doesn’t exclude the possibility that I have plugged in in to the wrong location). I’m also no expert in configuring RRF, so I may have screwed that up somewhere, despite using the configuration tool, where all I seem to have needed to do was select the right probe type, so I think I got that right.
