In that same link there are files for DWC 2.0.7 which may work on the older Duets, but I'm not certain about that.

You can use the F parameter in the M563 command to map the print cooling fan to a fan number of your choice.

Yes if the cable has a significant amount of resistance, e.g. more than 0.5 ohms.

You don't need to reassign the extruders in all M584 commands that you use, just in the first one - because when you assign any driver numbered 4 or higher to be an axis, it keeps its default assignment as an extruder as well unless you redefine the extruder drives.
