    • My new large scale 3D printer Hydra

      Hey there,

since my project is coming to an end, I would like to share some pics of my new large scale idex printer. The print volume is 550x550x500 mm. The printer is equipped with two E3d Hemera extruders which are watercooled with a custom heatsink. That's why I call the beast HYDRA.

The print bed consists of 4 individually adjustable aluminum plates with 230V silicone heaters and embedded high temperature magnets. Due to the separate beds, it is possible to use only one bed for small parts.
In my printers I'm using belt drives (gun tackle) which prove to be reliable and eliminate z wobbling completely (and any noise).
The bed of the HYRDA is moved by two belt drives (on single heatbed printers I'm using only one belt drive).
The printer has linear rails and a housing made of 3mm steel which results in a total weight of well over 100 kg (as I mentioned a real beast).

Here are some close-ups to the z axis and the used belt drive setup:

And some close-ups to the Hemera extruder heads:IMG_20201109_202712.jpg

The electronics look like this atm (I know a little bit messy 😉 😞IMG_20201109_195114.jpg

I wanted to ask if someone already has experience with a setup like this and whether it is possible to display all the four bed in the GUI of PanelDue.

      Cheers,
      Vinz

    • RE: Cnc plasma

      Hi,
I have built also a plasma cutter with a duet controller.
It works great for simple cuts. I used estlecam and now lightburn. If you want to cut complex shapes you should mention a torch hight control, because of heat-distorsion. If you are using pilot arc torch you have to do the wiring carfully (shielding and grounding) because of EMI
