      Hi!
I`m trying to install the duetwebserver on my RPI 4

Is it possible to test/start it without the Duet 3 connected to the PI?

@mundsen Not really. It requires a connection to DuetControlServer to start up properly and serve requests. And DuetControlServer won't start unless Duet 3 is connected.

@dc42 , I currently have poor wifi connectivity to one of my duets (signal is great but my laptop gets around 50Mbit in the same place as the printer). I am acquiring a RPi4 next week, would it be feasible to hook it up to a Duet 2 Wifi? (I suppose I need to remove the wifi module?). And as I understand it, DSF only supports Duet 3 but it will support Duet 2 in the future, right?

@whosrdaddy, did you mean "signal is not great"? If so, and you are capable of removing the WiFi module without damaging the PCB, then your best option is probably to replace the WiFi module by the ESP-07S version and external antenna.

There is no firmware build for Duet 2+RPi yet, and it will be at least a month before I can consider doing one.

                  ESP-07S

Thats the 4MB flash version, is that a requirement for the upgrade? Might be worth highlighting that

You could probably do the math by finding the amp usage of each component. WhenI ran it to determine the maximum number of LEDs I could drive while using a 7ā€ screen and it came out to about 10 when considering the load of the PI + LCD screen. I’m going to use an external power source for the PI (and connected components), and leave the PI in always-on mode. Then have a separate power button to boot up the Duet 3 and the rest of the system.

@tlas I've got my 24V supply in series with a mains relay hooked up to a unused GPIO pin on the Pi, so the Pi can turn on/off the Duet 3. One day I'll throw together a systemd script to handle it with dependencies to DuetSoftwareFramework.

(Both the 24V and USB supply are also hooked up to a Wifi controlled socket so both can turned completely off from HomeAssistant:)

Tony Can you say if a connector kit will be included and also a cable for the SBC or do we need to source our own beforehand? if we do can you list what we need to obtain.

                              Doug

@Dougal1957 Connectors and a 26way to 40 way cable for the SBC (compatible with a Raspberry Pi 3 & 4) will be provided.

Also a SD card with the default image with DuetSoftwareFramework etc installed on it.

Kind of curious why the Duet stayed with the 40 pin connector instead of matching the 26? Was this to enable backwards functionality if used without a SBC? Enable custom expansion? Just too many 40 pin connects on hand?

I think you'll find its the other way around, the connector was reduced from 40 to 26 presumably to save board space.
(iircc the old duet 2 expansion is 50 pin(?), the new only needs 5 signals + ground and potentially 5v if so configured. however earlier raspberry boards aslo use a 26 pin connector, could be related)
