      Nearly 30 releases later…

It hasn't had an update or even dev activity in a year now. It's either dead or deep stealth.

that "30 releases later" was quote from the website πŸ˜„

I tested it few months ago and it was "lot improved" to what I tested last time (~year+ ago)

There is no reason it would be gone. It's still included in the free license. Can you... like... look again? Or restart Fusion 360 or something? I guess if you're not worried about it, don't worry about it... but it's definitely still there and included free.

I "readded it" back trough extensions by "purchasing it" with credits (not money)

but this does not look like an "included free" option ... I do have "unlimited" balance as I have "education" account but I don't feel very comfortable with it after this incident 😞 ... I think I'll keep investing in free slicers

its not the first free feature being removed, when they created the teams feature we lost cloud translation (for importing solidworks etc) with no option to do it locally.

I oscillate between superslicer (PrusaSlicer fork with a bunch of interesting added features) and KISS (premium license). I'd stick with KISS if it had better positioning tools, support controls, and vase mode. I'd stick with superslicer if volumetric auto speed worked with gap fill, and if the default supports would be easier to deal with on single material machines. Currently, it seems I flip-flop between both whenever the issues named annoy me enough for a switch.

              ...bye fusion!

Some years ago I decided never to use stolen software any more and the last two (altium designer and solid works) were removed from my computer(s) in 2016. I moved to onShape as it was free (but all your designs are public - that was ok for me) but then they fiddled with licencing and terms and conditions and I moved to fusion360 (I like onShape much more). Looks like fusion is not a solution neither 😞 ... so attm openSCAD and FreeCAD look more and more like a solution 😞

That is not the manufacture workspace, that is the manufacture EXTENSION.

The workspaces are on the left of your screen, where it says "Design" or "Generative Design" or "Render" or "Manufacture."

They didn't remove any free features! Please stop spreading misinformation and please try a bit harder to investigate.

                  On-Machine Verification
                  5-axis Machining
                  Toolpath Modifications
                  4-axis Rotary

(of which I only used 4th axis so the others may have been added after it was no longer free, but, yes, free features have been removed)

Those were added to the manufacture EXTENSION, which was always a paid upgrade but offered for free for a month during the pandemic. They never existed as free base features in Fusion.

I believe there is still some limited 4 axis capability in the manufacture workspace. Nothing that was free before was removed.

Been so long since the 4th axis was functional that I haven't tested it; but it was definitively a change at some point eaons ago.

Cloud translation and shared projects (with write access) as well. Their reasoning for removing some formats were to protect against missuse - and they put both sketchup and solidworks on the no list - doesn't quite add up, but meh. Revison control and branching they removed for everyone but I get this nagging feeling I'm forgetting something else.

Not to mention their user surveys which basically said "how much would you be willing to pay", the writing is on the wall.

True, there were some features that were removed in October 2019 when they announced the changes to the free licenses.

What I meant, was that nothing from the manufacture workspace was removed after the trial of the manufacturing extension.

Who forfeited part of their revenues so that you, yourself, could have revenues?

I don't think anything Autodesk has done with Fusion 360 has been underhanded. They've been clearly trying to make back some of their investment lately, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. They've invested a lot into the software.

If you don't like the free license they offer, the paid license is pretty affordable compared to alternatives. Otherwise, FreeCAD and the like are available for you to try. Though, I don't think they're as actively developed as Fusion, so you may come crawling back to the free version of Fusion...

yup and before I added this extension when I open the drowdown the "manufacture" option did not exist (and was there few days ago)!!!

also, few days ago there was "more stuff" there, and now is gone. I don't remember what's gone as I was using design/simulation/manufacture only

                              6142e76d-5ba2-41c8-af29-5b08e1144402-image.png

I see "simulation" is still there as that's something I find super useful...

The might be some difference between licencing. When I was trying to get "Free Fusion360" it was not availble, I got some trial that stopped working and that was asking for money (that was more then year ago) so I went for "Education" licence that I got approved and I see I have "unlimited credits" and all these extensions are paid with those credits.. but not everyone can have education version approved. Dunno about the "free" licence as I hear many ppl got the "free" licence, maybe it's not available for all regions?! Maybe it is different now.. but the "free for personal use" was just a free trial that stopped working... it is possible I fscked something up there as I know number of ppl use it, and it seems to be different if you are on personal-free vs educational licence

The only workspace you are missing is Generative Design, because you are on an education account with unlimited cloud credits, they do not allow you access to GD as it's a very costly service for other users.

The manufacture workspace must have been there the whole time. I do not think they limit capability based on different markets, and the education license certainly has all the features of the commercial licenses (except, GD, in your case, because you're not part of a large Educational institute that is allowed free GD).

The free license is accessible after the 30 day commercial trial. It's been ages since I had to get a free license, but the option is there and people can assist you in finding it.

The point of this is that the FFF slicing in Fusion 360 is still there, for free, in the free version and all other versions and has always been since the day they implemented it. That said, I don't find it very useful mainly due to the limited resolution of the output.

If you need help with anything Fusion 360 related, there is a great Facebook group of users and also some Autodesk staff hang out there. The Fusion 360 forums are also great. Of course, you can always ask me or someone else on this forum and we can try and help you.

PS. I'm not affiliated with Autodesk, but I'm a commercial subscriber to Fusion 360.

They did initially make a fairly big point of being free and fully featured for anyone not getting rich of it; and I understand they need to make money, which they do by means of my employer throwing money at Autodesk instead of buying licenses and training elsewhere because I spend my own time becoming proficient in Fusion. That doesn't mean I won't quote Ms Shania Twain when they start diverging from the initial idea; I'll never justify spending money for CAD/CAM that doesn't generate any income.

Anyways, about them slicers ... saw IceSL mentioned, looked promising a few years ago, have they lived up to their own expectations?

btw, was there πŸ˜„ ... not sure when it was removed, I never used it, I just noticed it's not there. But there's a "shape optimization" under simulation that works for me (not that I used it much)

The manufacture workspace must have been there the whole time.

As I said, I used it, then few days ago I noticed it was gone, I "purchased" this extension and now is back there again. A bug, feature, error .. kill me, but I checked twice πŸ™‚ especially as I wanna test some routing these days and was disapointed the subtractive is not there any more so I need to use kirimoto or pycam or .. that I have even less experience with (as solidCAM is out of question, and that's the only one I really know how to use)

I do not think they limit capability based on different markets, and the education license certainly has all the features of the commercial licenses (except, GD, in your case, because you're not part of a large Educational institute that is allowed free GD).

possible, dunno. I noticed that some screenshots I seen from ppl using free version are different. The issue is - my personal one stopped working so I moved to educational one. No clue what's happening there but I'm happy with educational one as long as they don't start removing features. But TBH I spent 4 hours today with FreeCAD and I'm impressed big time how much they moved forward since the last time I used it :). Anyhow not relevant for this topic, but itches me to create one that does so will be going to do that now and we can continue there πŸ™‚

IMO, IceSL is on the cusp of being the best slicer around. There are lots of little things missing, many of them workflow/UI/UX related. Their slicing algorithm is second to none. Much more accurate than Slic3r or anything out there.

Their licensing is awkward, but they are completely compatible with free hobbyist use -- just not for paid work without emailing and working with their institutional departments.

The support structures in IceSL are very interesting. I wish they had more traditional supports, but what they have can be good for some models, like figurines or other such prints.

The new version they just released includes a generic template for RRF based printers, so you can start slicing and printing right away (with minimal configuration to suit your printer).

IceSL is on the cusp of being the best slicer around. There are lots of little things missing, many of them workflow/UI/UX related

IceSL reminds me of skeinforge πŸ˜„ ... the interface is so bad it hurts, but yes, it produces nice code πŸ™‚ ... it's just pain to use

You'll be happy to know they just added "service mode" which allows use from a command line.

                                            *not actually a robot
